We start mandatory work from home starting Friday. I work in Technology so it's been a crazy busy week and I realize it's only Tuesday!

Yes.

And there will be many millions of people not only affected, but put in dire consequences.

Virtually all of Boston is working from home if you spend your day on a computer. Paychecks will still be coming in. Minor disruption compared to all the small businesses and their employees who will lose their businesses and jobs.

When they do, they won't be able to pay for their healthcare, rent, mortgages, car payments and many other things.

Add in the retired who had their assets in vulnerable stocks. Add in all the other investment wealth lost.

These government induced problems are going to be further weighted by the price of oil falling to levels that will undoubtedly force massive layoffs from good paying jobs.

Rinse and repeat, rents, mortgages, and car payments. Throw in credit card debt.

Consumer demand will shrink creating more problems.

I've been against these shutdowns since day one. They are creating MUCH BIGGER problems in an effort to play God and stop a naturally occurring virus. Maybe unnaturally. But the response will be much more damaging than the virus itself.

If these shutdowns remain over a couple of weeks, the problems I outlined above will only be a piece of the malignancy.

Let the damned virus run it's course.

And I agree with this 100%. I barely even worry about the virus anymore, but the economy is going to be awful for a good amount of time. I'm actually extremely worried about that...

My wife is a (master) teacher. She is grossly underpaid. She works harder than I do.

Teachers should be paid more(performance based) and given more discipline authority (not spanking)

Have several family members who are/were teachers and no way I’d want their job

+1. People who say teachers are trying their best to take advantage of this simply don't know a teacher. No one and I mean no one, gets into teaching because of the financial gains, and its laughable to those who call them lazy.

Yes teachers work very hard. My kids have had some awesome teachers and we have been grateful.

I'm talking about the ones (usually pretty liberal) who bitch about everything on social media and always bitching how much they work and how little they get paid. What i'm saying is you never hear them bitch and complain when they are getting paid for NOT working.

Teachers actually dont get paid that bad for a profession where you work 36-40 weeks out of the year

Let me fill you as you’re greatly uneducated about this topic. I’m married to a teacher and she is working way more now remotely with her students than she does in the classroom. And, she’s getting shit from the union for hosting video chats with the kids as other teachers feel that is above and beyond.

What made you think all schools have stopped? They are educating 30-40 kids online with helicopter parents overseeing lesson plans.

You're upset that "liberal" teachers aren't bitching about their pay during this pandemic? Okay.

Good chance I get canned. A team at another location had their option funds blow up over the past 3 weeks... today is a dagger.
And I tend to start drinking around lunch since working from home. (i'll get zero moneys from the govt and maybe a tad from my company if it happens)
I'm still trying to triple inverse etfs and options on the way down here though...

so you're assuming all schools and all teachers are getting the same deal as your wife. that's just simply not true

I have 3 friends that are teachers and none of them were moved into virtual slots. two headed down to the Amazon distribution center in Sewickley today to pick up some hours driving packages around and the other is helping a restaurant with take-out orders since they banned in-store dining. zero are working virtually

Let me articulate:

1) A lot of schools are maintaining the status quo virtually. This means they don’t need to make up the time at the end of the school year.

2) If they aren’t teaching virtually, the kids will have to make up the time on the back end.

Are you saying schools where they aren’t teaching virtually have stopped state paychecks?

Don’t know what you mean by virtual slots? She’s just teaching her normal class online.

My county stopped this week as this was a 2.5 day school week anyway. Next week is spring break.

For the week of the 30th, i think the kids go virutal.

This week in broward country florida is a FREE week for teachers. For those who bitch about their raises and stuff, they are getting paid for watching netflix this week
