Check out that thread. I was surprised it wasn't 20X but its between 2 & 3 times!
It’s a popular belief that MMA is overtaking boxing as the most popular combat sport in the United States. However, saying that is like saying that NASCAR has overtaken the NFL as the most popular sport. The simple fact is that MMA’s top events don’t out produce boxing’s top events; not even close.
Lemme state again, I like elite boxing over MMA but of course its gonna be more for the biggest event. You know why? BECAUSE BIG BOXING EVENTS BARELY COME AROUND COMPARED TO MMA. UFC has like 15 PPVs a year they expect people to order now. Boxing has like 2-3. Klitscko/Haye wasnt even on PPV and that was like the most anticipated HW fight in years.
Floyd/Pac fights are the only fights that can outdo MMA PPVs. Also MMA PPVs would obviously do a lot more money per PPV if they didnt have 1 every 3 weeks or so now. I doubt boxing makes a comeback but I do think elite boxing will become the #1 skill to have in MMA in the future which is pretty cool.
I like boxing but your out of your god damn mind if you think boxings popularity is close to UFCs in 2011.
