Dice is like a drug. It's so fun to win, but once you win big, you're chasing that high that you got.
For all the people that have never played, don't start. It is the most pure form of degenerate gambling. Now if you want to play in Vegas once a year, fine. But keep it as entertainment, as there is nothing that can possibly happen at a craps table besides losing money.
I've heard some terribly sad stories from craps players. I played poker in Vegas with a guy that said he lost 50K a year for 30 years, until he finally quit. I played craps in St Louis with a guy that lost about 20K a year for 20 years, and he was still playing. And these guys were not wealthy. The guy in St Louis was like a painter or something. They both said that they had no regrets, that the highs they got from craps were so much fun. It's very similar to a drug, seriously.

That is one ridiculous day. How much does 11K weigh? Congrats.And I do mean the casino game!
I just returned from my personal best day at the tables. I decided to take the day off and drive up to Michigan to the 4 winds casino. Bought in for a thousand and cashed out at $7760 after a 4 hour session. I decided to get some lunch and then returned to the same table. I bought in again for a thousand and cashed out after 3 hours at $5275. Not a bad day at all! Ill take a 10G day over a a day at the office any day!
Call me a cocksucker, but all I'm trying to do is emphasize that
craps is a -EV game, and there is no sense trying to romanticize
the fact that degenerates lose a fortune playing it, as you can see from
some of the other posts in here.
Some people are able to play responsibly, that is great, and I'm
happy for the guy's win. But let's not get away from the fact that
the more you play, the more you lose in EV.
I've played at El Cortez (sometime around 2003 or so). I think it was $1, but can't remember. There's a lot of trash in that casino...but it was fun and I played for hours. Got comped a meal, which actually wasn't bad (in their shit hole coffee shop)..... I may walk that way one afternoon and see how the game looks....

The last time I played there, the Plaza had 10X odds on $5 tables. Seems like the Golden Gate has $3 tables fairly often, but I can't recall the odds.
The El Cortez used to be the best Downtown dice joint, with $1 tables and 10X odds. That was about as close to playing even with the house as a person could hope to find. Plus if you weren't in a wheelchair or dragging around an oxygen tank, you felt like the studliest guy in the casino.

Well actually you guys should play at the Golden Nugget as they are the gracious host and make sure you get a players card so therx gets the points.
All though I hope next years bash is on the strip as a third year in a row would seem like the movie groung hogs day......LOL
Last year my brother and I played for the most part at the GN but when they raised the min to $10 we went across to Binnions.
FYI my brother just spent 10 days in Las Vegas and three of those days were a comped room at the Golden Nugget.
