Funny story, I was bartending and waiting tables at Famous Dave's while I was in grad school. I had a black couple with 2 little kids. They were running some promo that night, buy a kids meal and get a 2nd kids meal free or something.
They get chicken tenders for the one kid and a kid's cheeseburger for the other. Adults order rib tips and Sierra Mist. When I come back to check on them, both plates are clean...all the food gone. Father complains to me that the kids didn't like the food and they want another meal since it was no good. Strange, I'm thinking, cause they ate every bite...but whatever, I don't care. So they order 2 different kids meals, to be comped.
I come back to check on them and the kids supposedly didn't like the meals again - and the food is gone again. He wants them taken off the bill. Keep in mind he is now on the hook for ONE kids meal compared to the FOUR they have eaten. I get the manager, he agrees to comp them. The total bill is now like $8 for sodas, rib tips, and 4 kids meals.
The lady tells me I'm the best "waitress" she's ever had. I offer to give them to go cups for their sodas. I get back from the kitchen and they had walked out on their bill. Like, what is the point of arguing and putting up that big stink to get shit taken off your bill if you're just gonna bolt on the bill anyway?
What's funny is they left me like 80 cents in change on the table, I assume as a tip. Best tip I got from a black family that whole summer.
