This could well be the largest example we've ever seen of voters voting against a candidate rather than for someone they support.

I think the last election was almost a mirror image of this one. The Republicans were all united after a tough primary because so many people hated Clinton. I think this is just the way it will be for some time now unfortunately. Certainly doesn't help recruit the best people on either side of the aisle to run when these are the conditions of the job.
