Because with millions of customers, they are depending on a certain percentage who don't even use it, kind of like insurance companies...

That wont work . They will lose money even if you only use the card once a month .

And I can see some people using it 20
times a month .

This is going to be a disaster unless they can talk the movie industry into rebate and a percentage of consessions .

But the movie industry will never do that because they could easily start their own monthly programs if they wanted .

Analytics Inc (HMNY) Shares Keep Rising Following Analyst Recommendation
Corey Williams-October 9, 2017, 2:11 PM EDT SHARE ON:
hmny logoHelios and Matheson Analytics Inc (NASDAQ:HMNY) shares added 26% to their gains on Monday after Maxim analyst Brian Kinstlinger initiated coverage on the data firm last week. With a Buy rating and price target of $20, the stock has delivered stellar returns of nearly 50% since the initiation was published. (To watch Kinstlinger’s track record, click here)

Kinstlinger wrote, “We expect the low monthly subscription price it set up to initially lose money and to build scale. Companies like Netflix, Amazon, and Facebook were all among the first to market in their respective industries and built scale while losing money, before monetizing their user base. MoviePass is the first to market a movie pass subscription and at the $9.95 price point, we believe the value proposition supports rapid adoption. In fact, its subscriber base grew to over 400,000 from 20,000 in the four weeks following the drop in price.”

“With scale, we see a variety of ways in which the company can impact overall and individual movie ticket sales, as well as individual theater receipts. We project five million subscribers by the end of 2019 and 10 million in early 2021, and that, during that time, MoviePass can begin to impact overall ticket sales through advertising and direct marketing campaigns. Not only will overall ticket sales go up, as was the case with the AMC study, but MoviePass can push trailers, coupons, and other marketing materials about certain titles. As a result, MoviePass would be a key influencer in the movie industry that other key players would want to partner with,” the analyst continued.

Helios and Matheson Analytics provides a range of information technology (IT) consulting solutions, custom application development, and analytics services to Fortune 1000 companies and other organizations in the United States. Its services include application value management, application development, integration, independent validation, infrastructure, information management, and analytics services. The company supports various computer technology platforms and client IT projects using a range of third-party software applications. In addition, it develops RedZone Map, a GPS-driven real-time crime and navigation map application that provides users with real time crime data and a platform for alerting other users to criminal and other safety related occurrences in a navigation map format, as well as allows users to report a crime and upload videos of live incidents.

After a 1 for 250 reverse split wiping out most shareholders, Moviepass has gone to a "surge " pricing model. We knew they had to do something since they had to be losing money on every sign up, but it looks like to me , just about every movie and time slot you want to go, an extra charge of 3-6 bucks applies . Based on the threads I read, this is not going well, and lots of members are cancelling . Lets see how they respond . The stock closed last night @ 6.83 , and only has about 1 million shares outstanding . I will sadly cancel mine too if that continues, as now it really just becomes a discount club and will only work if you see at least 2 movies a month. Not the same deal . I was paying 10 bucks and seeing 1 movie a week Great fun while it lasted RIP Moviepass

the original plan for moviepass to make money was twofold.
both parts of the plan required them to have a large
subscriber base. the first part was to leverage their clout
of many members by negotiating directly with theaters for
rebates from them when members used their facility or
bought concession. the other part of their plan for profitability
was to use their large data base of users to directly market
films, theaters, and etc directly to the members and get compensated
from the theaters, filmmakers, or any other entity that could
use that database to their marketing advantage. the first
part of the plan failed miserably and the second part had small
limited success. unfortunately for moviepass the cost of building
their subscriber base by subsidizing the cost of movies was so great
that small successes weren't able to overcome the tremendous short
term cash burn (losses). also AMC responded by introducing its own
limited monthly fee moviepass like plan and this was also very
bad for moviepass. the future does not look bright here.

Stupid question but why do your posts always format like that?

Hard to get the full dosage of niltes knowledge as that format is not easy on the eyes.

i'm a dinosaur, sorry. FYI moviepass ran out of cash yesterday and needed an emergency
infusion of $5 million to keep the debit cards working. not a good sign.

moviepass had more outages of service this weekend. the gameplan now
is to stop members from seeing popular movies within the first two weeks
of release followed by an increase in the monthly membership fee of about
50% somewhere around labor day.

Price to be raised to $14.95 New releases will be limited for the first two weeks.

I saw 4 movies last week. A few of the movies there was nobody else in the theatre. If it wasn't for Movie Pass it would have been empty and I wouldn't have been there.

I could care a less about waiting two weeks for new releases. I'll see them on my terms not theirs.

I hope they find a way to monetize. The easiest would be to show an ad for some movie or something when you open the app. Think of the amount they can show. That has to be worth something to someone.
