If the Earth wasn't round, at some point you would have to come to a big dead end. There would have to be a point, where you couldn't go any farther. You could never start at point A and get back to point A without changing direction and going back where you started from.
However, if you owned your own private jet you could start in Boston and go East and get back to Boston without ever turning around and going back West. This proves the world is round.
People used to believe it was flat, but they didn't have planes and cars. They were very limited as to how far they could travel. Back in those days noone ever went around the world, so the concept of Earth's size was really something they couldn't comprehend. Kind of like we cant comprehend the size of the entire universe because we are limited as to where we can go in the universe. Probably 5000 years from now people will be able to travel to different planets like we drive to different cities. When that happens, the debate as to whether there is life on other planets will be mute because they will know for sure one way or the other. We can't really know - we just guess because we are very limited in our real knowledge of the universe. Like 1000 years ago, people didn't have any real knowledge of the earth as a whole, so they just guessed it was probably flat. The argument that Earth is flat today is crazy because we know better. Like if 5000 years from now they can go to some planet and talk to aliens on a daily basis, noone would ever be able to argue that people used to believe that Earthings were the only living beings. That argument wouldnt work anymore because it will have been proven false.
