I can't. I already have some dogs. It's a real shame too. Wonder who's dog this was but there was no tag.

long shot, but shelter would be able to see if it has a chip since it doesn't have a tag

looks like it was prob someone's dog, so imagine/hope someone is looking for it?

It still may have a microchip. I have a reader at my place. Anyone should check it for free. If it has an owner that wants it back, I would still keep it in my possession and have the owner meet me. Too many horror stories I can share from handing it to the shelter even when the dog's owner is found.

That sounds bad. How often do shelters mistreat these dogs?

More often than the public knows. They get away with it, easily. You, or anyone, can use FOIA to get info. We do about every 3 months, and I'm baffled by what I see every time. The shelter here is made up of mostly County Jail Inmates as workers. It sounds bad, but some of those inmates are better workers and nicer to the animals than the paid ones. Here the problem is Management. They're a killing machine, and it's ran by Tax Dollars, which is even worse. Getting change or even an attempt at it has been like arguing with a brick wall in the past.

The reason I say keep it in your hands even if you find the owner because let's say the dog is food aggressive (no biggie at all), or a worker mistreats it and it snaps at them, they will use the shitty excuse of "dog showed aggression" and put it down.

That is pretty depressing. I sometimes wondered if the people who work at these places even care about the dogs. I guess most of them don't.

That's how I get most of mine, scoop them up from the Death Row kill list.

First, I would check for a microchip. BTW, most vets should be able to do that for you also, King. Hopefully, one is found, and the owner wants it back. If not, yes, please check to make sure a local rescue may help you out. If they are full, they may at least let KON attend their adoption events or help promote him. Ya never know, they may take him in.

Is fostering for a bit an option, King?

If not or so, and you still don't find the dog a home, I would then seek and be sure the facility is NO KILL before surrendering.

The dog definitely looks to have some German shorthair in it. That is what I got. Good loyal dog but full of energy. Must have room to run which we have but that dog can still wear me out. Good luck
