MEDIA RESPONSE

Despite US worker displacement in his own state, Rubio calls for tripling H-1B visas.
msp-confidential-stamp.png
Business Standard News and the Latin Postboth issued stories late yesterday on presidential candidate Marco Rubio (R-Fla) reiterating his support for tripling the number of H-1B visas.
Comment. Share. Discuss.
Pulling from the Press trust of India, the Business Standard Newsreports:
A leading Republican presidential candidate has favoured substantial increase in the number of H-1B visas, arguing that there is shortage of highly skilled manpower in the US, according to media reports.

Marco Rubio, who has consistently maintained his ranking in the top five in a crowded Republican presidential field of 17 candidates, said that he wanted to triple the number of H-1B visas - which is the most sought-after work visa for the IT professionals.

Rubio has maintained his expansionist position even as news has spread about U.S. workers in his own state of Florida being displaced by the visa program.
The New York Times made the story of Americans training their foreign replacements mainstream news, but covered the issue as if it is one of a few rogue companies abusing the program.
The H-1B program itself is set up to allow the displacement of U.S. workers by guest workers with basic - not exceptional - skills.
A majority of H-1B visa holders fall into the lowest ("Entry Level") of four skill categories; only 6 percent of H-1Bs fall under the highest ("Fully Competent") level. (GAO report, table 5)
According to the Department of Labor's 2006 Strategic Plan (p.35), "H-1Bworkers may be hired even when a qualified U.S. worker wants the job, and a U.S. worker can be displaced from the job in favor of the foreign worker."

Contact Congress today - Urge passage of S 2146 to punish sanctuary cities and help keep us safe!
Take Action

The growing number of U.S. sanctuary cities pose serious threats to innocent victims. S 2146, the Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act, will ensure that state and local jurisdictions comply with federal law and that dangerous criminals are not released to do more harm.
This legislation will withhold certain federal funds and grants from identified sanctuary cities, and reallocate those funds to other states and localities that cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
Federal tax dollars should not support localities that refuse to comply with immigration detainers.
This bill also includes “Kate’s Law,” which will mandate a minimum 5 year prison sentence for illegal aliens convicted of re-entering the U.S. after being convicted of an aggravated felony.

"A federal judge signed an order on Friday that denied a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit filed by citizens of Mexico and several Central American nations claiming entitlement to birth certificates for their children born in the United States. They sued the Vital Statistics Unit of the Texas Department of State Health Services saying the agency denied them the certificates because they did not possess the required identification. ... The parent plaintiffs of the 23 children claimed that the state of Texas violated their children’s rights because the Fourteenth Amendment provides that any child born on U.S. soil is an American citizen as well as a citizen of the state where they reside. The plaintiffs and their children reside in Texas."

FROM FAIR - Make Those Calls!!!!
Tuesday the Senate is prepared to act.

More than three months have passed since Kate Steinle was tragically shot and killed in San Francisco by an illegal alien with seven convictions and five previous deportations. Since her July 1 death, Americans across the country have demanded that Congress act to punish sanctuary cities—State and local jurisdictions with policies that obstruct immigration enforcement. Finally, on Tuesday the Senate is prepared to act.
Call your Senators NOW!
Tell them to vote YES on S. 2146, the “Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act”

Introduced by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), S. 2146 is a commonsense bill that denies certain Federal funds to jurisdictions that refuse to (1) share information about criminal aliens with the Federal government or (2) recognize ICE detainer requests. Clearly, jurisdictions that obstruct immigration enforcement should not benefit from Federal dollars. Additionally, the bill increases penalties for illegal reentry and requires the Federal government to publish on a website a list of all sanctuary jurisdictions. These important provisions will help keep Americans safe!

"In 2012, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) looked at how much illegals were costing the state of Ohio. They report that tax dollars are used to fund education, medical care, law enforcement activities and other government services including food stamps, housing, etc.
At that time, they calculated that there were 9,480 illegal alien children and another 25,375 US born children of illegals in Ohio in 2012. FAIR reported that it cost Ohio taxpayers $364 million per year just for the education of illegals from K through 12. Ohio taxpayers pay an additional $145 million a year for Limited English proficiency instructions, raising the total cost for educating illegals to $509 million per year. . . "

Thank you for all the great faxing and phoning all week. Many of you were hearing from us every single day because of so many urgent needs. An important part of our role here is to spread the word as widely as possible with the knowledge that once our vast network has the information, it can be passed on to many other sources and ignite fires under other organizations.

  • We sent out 3.1 million Action Alert emails this week.
  • And we spread the news about the sanctuary cities vote and Paul Ryan's immigration expansionism on Facebook with 6 million people viewing our posts.
It all started with the Senate vote on Sen. David Vitter's sanctuary cities bill on Tuesday, and while the vote didn't go the way we had hoped, a majority of Senators supported a bill that would cut certain federal grants to sanctuary jurisdictions. We now have 99 Senators on the record for or against sanctuary jurisdictions.
Focus then shifted to the House Speaker's race where Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) emerged as the clear frontrunner on Tuesday. At first, we were hoping that the pushback from your phone calls and faxes would prevent Ryan from jumping into the race, but he announced his official candidacy for House Speaker last night.
That doesn't mean the fight is over, though. As many of you read in Roy's alert earlier today, there are quite a few Republican Representatives in Washington who face a difficult decision before next Thursday's vote for House Speaker -- oppose amnesty-champion Paul Ryan for Speaker or support him and face the ire of the voters. There has been massive pushback for Ryan's pro-amnesty, open-border views, and that doesn't sit well with most of the Party's constituents.
It could take as few as 29 Republicans to block Ryan from the Speakership, so please look for more phone alerts from Roy as we continue to keep the pressure on.
Aside from all the activism this week, it's been a busy news week as well. Please take a look at some of the news stories that are posted below, including a repeated warning from the FBI Director to the potential national security threats posed by resettling Syrians in the United States and an executive action by Pres. Obama that will expand the number of work visasgiven to foreign citizens each year.
We also ask that you visit your Action Boardthis weekend for any faxing opportunities. We posted faxes in response to the Senate's sanctuary cities vote and faxes for activists who have a Republican Representative on Paul Ryan http://numbersusa.com
