Sotomayor: Calling immigrants ‘illegal’ is insulting…

Posted on Feb 4, 2014 at 11:07 AM in Politics | 13 Comments

By The Right Scoop

They violate our laws by coming here illegally and one of our Supreme Court Justices thinks that calling them ‘illegal aliens’ is insulting? Ugh. They aren’t less worthy human beings – that’s a preposterous statement. But they are less worthy of citizenship because they broke our laws to come here illegally.

CBS DC – On the Supreme Court since 2009, Sotomayor said it was tough at first as justices made references that went over her head. She said joining the high court amounted to joining an ongoing conversation among justices who had served for years.

“I figure I may not be the smartest judge on the court but I’m going to be a competent justice,” she said. “I’m going to try to be the best I can and each year I think my opinions have been getting better. And I’m working at finding my voice a little bit.”

Sotomayor was asked at a talk at Yale Law School later in the day about her use of the term “undocumented immigrants” rather than the traditional illegal alien. Sotomayor characterized the issue as a regulatory problem and said labeling immigrants criminals seemed insulting to her.

“I think people then paint those individuals as something less than worthy human beings and it changes the conversation,” Sotomayor said.

URGENT ACTION

Don't miss a chance to be counted in House Speaker Boehner's office on his new amnesty plan
Vote Here.

YOU HAVE A DEMOCRATIC REPRESENTATIVE.

THAT MEANS WE HAVEN'T ASKED YOU TO DO MUCH LATELY TO HELP STOP BOEHNER IN HIS QUEST TO PASS AN AMNESTY THIS YEAR.

But here's your chance to make a real difference.
House Speaker Boehner has opened up his website for people to comment on the "Immigration Standards" that he introduced last week.
Please leave your comment here.

Since you don't have a Republican Representative to urge to tell Boehner to stop, his website becomes one of the few ways that you can influence the most important part of the amnesty fight at this time.
This morning, there were more than 1,500 comments on Speaker Boehner's website. The good news is that most of them oppose his "draft principles" to grant legal status and work permits to millions of illegal workers before lifting a finger to benefit the U.S. workforce.
Let's see if we can double that number this afternoon.
And wouldn't it be great to just explode that web page with comments? Forward this email to others to get them to "vote," too.
Please add your statement of opposition to Boehner's amnesty plan in the comments section of his website.

This is what Jeremy wrote to many other of our members this morning:
If you have already commented, thank you. Please comment again. It doesn't matter if you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent. Send a signal to the Speaker of the House that a war on American workers at every skill level is going to be deeply unpopular, regardless of party.

Boehner's "principles" are carefully worded to trick voters. But the House GOP Leadership's plan is to grant legal status and work permits to illegal aliens before anything else. And legalization IS amnesty, no matter how the Speaker spins it.

The public backlash has been great. Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Paul Ryan have all been cautious in their public statements. But sources on Capitol Hill confirm that Republican leadership has been secretly meeting behind the scenes with the White House and Senator Schumer to find a way to get a mass legalization and foreign-worker increase through the House.

Public opposition has forced House Republican leaders back off in public. But we need a much bigger show of force to force them to back away from their back-room war on American workers.
Please leave your comment here.

Thank you,

P.S. After you leave a comment on the Speaker's statement of principles, you can leave additional comments on the Speaker's "Q&A" page. There, you can make it clear that any plan that grants legal status and work permits to illegal aliens is an amnesty.
P.P.S. A brief recap:

  • House GOP Leadership has refused to commit to any "triggers" before granting legal status and work permits;
  • Rep. Paul Ryan told MSNBC's Chuck Todd that the Republican plan would grant illegal aliens legal status and work permits FIRST, then turned around and told ABC something completely different;
  • The GOP leadership uses poll-tested language to describe their plan. They hope to convince voters that granting legal status and work permits to illegal aliens doesn't count as "amnesty" because they promise to require "zero tolerance" of illegal immigration in the future. Sound familiar?

We should follow the Swiss in limiting immigration! They just voted to limit immigration. About 80,000 foreigners moved to the country last year. A quarter of Switzerland's population of 8 million are now foreigners. In the end, the vote reflected unease that Switzerland was in danger of losing its identity.

I think the USA is on the verge or if not already there of losing its identity. Primarily because of the Immigration Act of 1965

Enough - is there no one with a spine to stand up against nonsense like this?

Why does Mexico who sends us their criminals, their uneducated, their unwanted lower class …all the while ……….happily taking $20 BILLION plus in remittances that was earned and should have remained in the US … why do they believe that we for one minute would entertain the idea of sending them money unless our roadways are flooded with their trucks?

Mexico - we are a sovereign nation - you have no right to demand anything

Trying to get someone on the show to fill us in on what is really going on here
