In the fall of 2008, Pres. George W. Bush signed an executive order requiring all businesses contracting with the federal government to screen new hires using E-Verify. The workplace verification tool administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services verifies an employee's identity with federal data. Independent studies show E-Verify to confirm 96% of all cases. Pres. Bush later delayed the mandatory usage of E-Verify while legal objections were getting resolved. It has been delayed two more times under Pres. Barack Obama. Rep. Heath Shuler's SAVE Act requires the mandatory nationwide use of E-Verify for all private and public employers.
The federal government interviewed more Chipotle employees this week in two dozen locations in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. Earlier this year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched an audit on the company's employee records, resulting in the firing of approximately 500 illegal aliens in Minnesota, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Chipotle received advanced notice of the employee interviews and asked its employees to cooperate with federal investigators. According to Chipotle's attorney, the continued investigation does not necessarily represent a broader investigation into the company. ICE officials would not comment. We need our members to contact the NC General Assembly on Monday and Tuesday.(Once is not enough) There are several illegal immigration related bills that are stuck in committee and if they are not out within a week or so, they will die! If we don't capitalize on these bills now, they won't be coming back and our chance to get real illegal immigration enforcement in NC will be lost. There is no second chance here folks.
PLEASE, contact the primary sponsors of these bills first. Ask them: 1) What are the chances of House/Senate Bill... getting out of committee? 2) What can you do to assist them in their effort to get their bill out of committee?
Then contact the Chairmen of these committees and explain (be civil): 1) NC is spending over $1.3 billion dollars per year just to educate, incarcerate and give emergency treatment to illegal aliens 2) The majority of NC citizens support immigration enforcement 3) When is House/Senate Bill ... coming out of committee?
