Luke Walton make 6 mill a yr
Sasha did not score apoint in the Orlando series, he makes $5 mill

2 horrible contracts the Lakers wished they never did.. They could have Artest, Ariza and Odom signed right now if it was not for those 2 contracts... Also, Sasha contract is 3 years so not that bad. Both were signed when the cap was increasing not in a year when it is going down. Next year it might go down again.

The AV contract will end up being crap.

Bird Man got 1/2 of AV contract. I would take birdman at 5 years 26 million anyday.

its funny how people rip on a contract that they havent even seen yet.

again, wait until the details are released.

6 years 50 million doesnt mean 6 years and 50 million.

The deal actually averages $7 million per year, and only a portion of the final year of the contract is guaranteed. Which puts the contract at five years for somewhere around $37 million or $38 million, with a team option for a sixth.

5 years for 37-38 million.

IMO, great signing.

GTC,

The contract is at five years for somewhere around $37-38 million... There is a team option for a sixth year.

12-13 mill in incentives to make it 50 M if he hits them.

Still comes out to over 7 mill a year at a min... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over paid.

MLE or pass.

Not in this economy. Seems like cap will go down agian next year. Contracts seem to be small right now.

Marrion, Artest, and soon to be Odom all better then Varajaeo and signed for less or similar contracts.

you wouldnt take Varajaeo at

5 years 38 mill?

Is he the final link to put Cleveland over the top? No.

Some teams will really be screwed next year when the cap drops from $57 mil to about $51 mil.

I know the knicks just lost lebron because of that.

i dont get why the salary cap is going down. all the owners are billionaires.

It is based on league-wide revenues for the prior season. It will be very interesting to watch the cap of the NHL and the NBA the next few seasons as both sports are viewed as third fiddle in the major markets. Corporate spending I assume will be way down.

I am trying to find info on the NHL teams, but know that 15 NBA teams did borrow from the league coffers last season. Memphis, Charlotte, and Sacramento will have a very hard time staying afloat. All three are looking at $20+ mil losses in the '09-10 season.

Good chance this could be the last season of the WNBA too. NBA has to cut losses and this will be the first place they look at.

20 mill is nothing though to charlotte. bob johnson(founder of BET) and michael jordan are behind the operations. we both know 20 mill is nothing to them, so why should that have an affect on the whole league.

sacramento(the maloofs): losing 20 mill a year is nothing to them either. whats going on now is kind of why i hate the salary cap sometimes.

at the same time im glad the nba is not like mlb where over half the teams are minor league teams for the top 5-7 teams.

This is the worst signing since John Contract was signed by Atlanta a million years ago.

He is not leaving, Book it.

While it would appear that the NBA would want LBJ in NYC, the NBA can not afford LBJ to leave CLE, as there are already a few franchises in financial trouble and if he left CLE, that team would turn instantly into Charlottle North.

I really believe that Charlotte, New Orleans, Memphis are all in financial peril.

This will be the third year in a row the Maloofs lose 20+ mil. Same with Charlotte. Jordan isn't putting a dime into the operation. The NBA has a soft cap anyway. Look for that to change in the next CBA.

im still a guy that believes winning cures all.

there is no reason to go to kings, bobcats games because they are never competitive.

my team, the wolves have been a perennial loser and nobody goes to there games.

but when we had MV3 and were winning 50 games consistently, they sold out.

you need a reason to go to the games, especially in this economy.

I am too, but the contracts given out to average players like Varejao are horrible for the league. I don't think he is worth $6-7 mil for a year, let alone 6-7 years. Pretty big committment for smaller markets when the bigger markets are setting the standard.

I still dont think its that bad. i know you guys dont like him, but i would love the wolves to have someone like varejo on this team.

like i said, i like nuisance players. players that get into the head of other players.

off the top of my head, guys like manu ginobili, bruce bowen, ron artest, etc.
