Things will get rough. It will not be end of the world. The days of easy money (read credit) will be gone and people will be forced to limit their spending to their income levels. This bill would have made things worse were it passed. We need some medicine to fix our situation, but this bill would've been like taking arsenic to get rid of the hangover from the recent excesses.

The pumpmonkies on CNBS and the fear mongers in government will be out saying how this is going to kill our economy. Do some research on your own instead of listening to the pitchmen; Mish, Roubini, Denninger, Schiff, etc.

Want a realistic solution, http://www.denninger.net/letters/fixit.pdf
That is just one, there are many better solutions out there than this POS that got killed offered.

BTW, news wire says they are going to try to get the bill passed again (probably some very swift changes), but not today.

I was against this before I was for it.

I agree with Tiz and other like minds....when you start yelling fire in a crowed room, what the fuck do you expect people to do?

Congress (and chiefly the PREZ) are responsible for a ton of doom and gloom overhype tied directly to this bill.

Market has some very strong underlying fundamentals, just have to weed out the bad apples, and get back to a more realistic price.

401K's will bounce back (in 5 years)

umm...not really

the consumer just needs to start living on his paycheck vs. living on debt

and that unfortunately means alot of jobs and other shit in the economy will be lost

since our economy is so full of shit you don't need

this will be a painful but necessary process...and a long one

we had our fun time on massive amounts of foreign lent debt....time to pay the piper

secular bear starting in 2000...probably will go on for many many years.....last 5 years just inflationary froth building alot of bubbles based on debt that now are imploding and were unsustainable

i'm almost sure they will throw in a few new provisions/protections for taxpayer and they will pass it eventually

many that i heard speak today sounded like they wanted to do something along these lines but didn't want to do this.....

plus with markets tanking that'll put more pressure on them to vote yea next time

the whole problem with this situation

is they were asking for dictatorial FDR type powers prior to the market crash....the average joe although struggling didn't want to see the big boys get bailed out.....and many still have a job and their 401ks aren't down 50% or something yet....so they voiced strong opposition to this bill.....

if markets had already cratered and it was becoming obvious we were in deep trouble this bill woulda passed no doubt

I think this will pass all part of selling it to the people. Just making it look like they are playing hardball with the banks and its not a sweetheart deal.

I think the GOP enjoyed slapping the bitch, she thought she had the votes. They weren't in love with the bill, and when she gave one of her partisan speeches on the floor before the vote, they said fuck you asshole.

I agree with tizdoom, they will rework the deal and get something passed.

As long as the market continues to tank today..public opinion will change and maybe a few provisions added.

This will get through somehow, it wasn't really that far away. I'm surprised they let it get to the floor with such a close vote...guess blunt/boehner & pelosi both thought they had more votes than they did.

do you agree its just a bandaid and the economy will continue to go in the gutter though that is the question tizgloom has for the permabulls out there now that everything is blowing up

:grandmais

bill or not we still have major issues going forward...this shit isn't gonna immediately open up the credit spigots...UE will continue to go up, housing will continue to crumble etc........and it also takes away ammo and makes future costs of debt taken by government to throw direct stimulus at the consumer economy go up....such as FDR style worker programs, alternative energy etc....

all they can do is try to make this a grinding bear by slowly along the way giving some fluff to prices that want to crash.....that's all they are doing

trying to slowly deflate the bubbles

rather than have it burst in a chaotic manner

in the end it probably will make it worse and drag it out longer

since your solution to the problem is what got us in this situation to begin with....more bad debt

Market taking a beating. Is Congress really going to blow this. Republicans may become an endangered species if this fails and the economy tanks in the next month.

No. They are there to represent the people. They are suppose to listen to them.

The modus operandi since at least the 1970s has been for elected reps to vote they way they think is best. Most presume that if they were elected by a majority vote that "their platform" is in fact the one that most represents the voters.
