ok, on a similar note:

Why does "Latino' mean 'Latino American'.

I though Latino meant people from countries with a language that is primarily of Latin origin. That would include Spaniards, French, Italians, etc, no?
yes you r correct its just another word even rumanians go into this list it just been given a wrong meaning to thw word latino tks for the smart observation

I think it's just easier to say American than US Citizen. Why would Ticos go around saying "Vea, estadounidense hijueputa" when "Gringo " is so much easier.

Language isn't an exact science. The different meaning words gain over time is representative of the way the world is going. Yes, American is easier than US citizen, but there is something more profound than that.
