That's a negative, Thruth. While I might be stopping in to complete a few tasks, I'm moving on to some other things. I would do it all over again though. No regrets, a helluva learning experience, and I did have more than my share of good times.

Costa Rica Hoy

---Translation:
Costa Rica had a record growth in Construction, Development this past year.

A total of 2.749.462 square METERS in total were constructed. Of these, 1,5 million square meters were housing-related.

Construction in Costa Rica alone generated 110,000 jobs.

I tell ya... There is plenty of Investment money coming to Costa Rica.

I also read that 145,000 tourists will start flying directly to our International Airport located in Liberia, Guanacaste.

Fellow Ticos...don't lose the hope! Costa Rica is well on its path to stronger economic growth.

With housing prices as they are in CR I can't blame anyone for building! Considering the prices and the wages, there probably is demand to at least increase the housing stock 50% before prices will become more in line with what the average person can afford. Right now it is a slam dunk to build as long as the land isn't being held hostage by some speculator.

A lot of those contruction projects were started before real estate prices began to crash. I don't see the demand to meet the supply. I see a lot of vacancies in CR right now. There are a lot of commercial vacancies that weren't there before. There's a lot of empty houses too, especially in higher priced areas that Americans used to live in. If you have a home in CR "valued" at $120,000 or above, it will be a tough challenge to sell it.

They can build the live-long day, but I don't know who will be occupying these places.

There's houses for sale and rent all over the place. Commercially, I think these new buildings are going to get tenants, but the older, out-dated ones are going to have vacancy problems and will be forced to come way down in price.

American, things are picking up again. I know some brokers who have sold a couple of homes in the half million range the last few months.

I dont visit this side of the forums much but I just had a blast reading posts from American, He is 100% correct on every post he makes and those of you that doubt it never have experienced "real" Costa Rica. I lived there for 2 yrs and hated every second of it, it was the twilight zone and I dont miss 1 min of that hell hole!

Well I guess you'll be surprised to hear from me after all this time.

I glad to see all this optimism, but don't totally understand it. Of course the 3rd lane being added to each side of the highway is a great step. However small streets are still pretty bad. On another note, I haven't noticed the cost of living do anything but slowly, steadily continue to rise. In my opinion real estate is still over priced and the financing options are still out of range for most average people. I think that my biggest concern is that at the moment I have several friends having a very hard time finding work.

Don't get me wrong, I'm making a fair buck, living fine, and still love it here. I'm just saying that I think there's still a very long way to go, and it saddens me to see so many average Joe locals (including several friends) having such a hard time making ends meet.
