THURSDAY

Here is tonight's selection. Remember that the NCAA College football starts Saturday as well!!!

7 Units Pittsburgh Steelers +3 +101

The Pittsburgh Steelers evened their preseason record to 1-1 SU/ATS when they rolled to a 38-3 victory over the Houston Texans. QB Ben Roethlisberger completed eight of his 14 passes but was intercepted once. Incumbent starter Tommy Maddox, who will retain the #1 QB spot, posted 80 yards and a touchdown on 4-of-7 passing while Jerome Bettis rushed for 48 yards and a TD on 10 carries as the Steelers ran for 205 yds. They have rushed for 173 and 205 yards in two preseason games! For this game, QB Tommy Maddox will start and play into the 2nd Q, while Roethlisberger will follow and Brian St. Pierre will mop up. The starters will play no more than two quarters Thursday in Philadelphia, and some might not even play that long. "We'll count the snaps and give them a half, if need be," Cowher said. Philadelphia got past the Baltimore Ravens, 26-17 as their starters played the entire first half. Donovan McNabb completed 7-of-14 passes for 158 yards. His first throw was a TD pass of 80 yards to newcomer Terwell Owens. On the down side, Correll Buckhalter suffered a torn patella tendon in the knee and is expected to miss the entire regular season for the second time in three seasons. Without the traded Duce Staley and injury to top rookie RB Bruce Perry, the running game has question marks. Dorsey Levens was signed Monday to help out. This battle for bragging rights for the Keystone State will be interesting as both teams appear ready for the regular season. The Ravens rushed for 196 yards (5.8 ypc) last week against the Philly defense, and Pittsburgh has also been running extremely well this preseason. That ground attack should allow them to hang in here.

FRIDAY

Here are tonights selections:

5 Units Minnesota Vikings -7 -103

The Niners 0-2 SU/ATS revisit the midwest this week after losing to the Bears in Soldier Field 20-13 Saturday. Ken Dorsey completed 15-of-24 passes for 129 yards with a touchdown and Cody Pickett was 10-for-17 for 118 with two interceptions for the 49ers, who had a 412-241 advantage in total yards. Tom Rattay practiced this week after missing nearly three weeks with a swollen right forearm -- He may see time here. However, QB Ken Dorsey missed practice Tuesday because of two protruding disks in his lower back and Dennis Erickson doubted that Dorsey would play Friday at Minnesota. If neither Rattay nor Dorsey can play, that would leave second-year QBs Brandon Doman and rookie Cody Pickett as the 49ers' only other options. The Vikings, who led 17-13 at the half, lost to the Atlanta Falcons 27-24 on Friday. QB Daunte Culpepper played into the second quarter and tossed for 124 yards leading the Vikings (1-1) to scoring drives on their first two possessions. Second-stringer Gus Frerotte threw for 126 yards, including an 83-yard score to Kelly Campbell. The Vikings secondary was shredded by rookie QB Matt Schaub who completed 16-of-19 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns after entering the game trailing 14-3. Minnesota running back Onterrio Smith is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance and ran six times for 21 yards. The Niners are still searching for wide outs to hold the ball and for the defense to get settled with several new bodies. The Vikings secondary showed holes last week but should outscore the rebuilding Niners who could be jet-lagged.

7 Units Chicago Bears -2.5 -102

The New Orleans (1-1 SU/ATS) Saints lost to the Packers 19-14 in preseason action Saturday. QB Aaron Brooks strained his right quadriceps and won't play this week. Brooks finished the night 7-of-13 for 44 yards. Said Brooks, "Our drives were about penalties and dropped balls. We have just got a lot of work to do." The Bears hung on for a 20-13 victory over San Francisco at Soldier Field Saturday behind Rex Grossman who completed 8-of-16 passes for 44 yards and Jonathan Quinn who finished 8-of-12 for 74 yards. Da Bears who gave up over 300 yards in the air to the Niners acquired some much needed help on the defensive line when they picked up All-Pro DE Adewale Ogunleye from the Dolphins in exchange for receiver Marty Booker. For this game, QB Rex Grossman and the starters are expected to play the first half, the most time yet in preseason for the Bears starters. The Saints defeated the Bears last year 20-13 but with Brooks hobbled, the Bears appear to be stronger this time around and they’re at home where they were 6-2 SU/ATS a year ago. Don't look for an offensive show as these teams are a combined 4-0 UNDER the total this preseason.

10 Units Denver Broncos -5.5 -105

Simply put, the young Houston Texans can't play on the road in August. Dom Capers is 0-5 SU, 1-4 ATS on the road in preseason as Houston coach. They got smacked 38-3 at Pittsburgh last week, their first road game this August. It doesn't get any easier this week. Houston will go with QB David Carr, who will play into the third quarter with the other starters. Houston still has injuries to the running game, so Carr and the passing attack will have to carry the day. But it won't be easy against a Denver team that is strong and deep on offense and defense. Denver's first unit on offense will play at least the first half, so it will be QBs Jake Plummer in the first half, followed by Danny Kanell and rookie Matt Mauck in the second half. Despite playing three preseason games already, this is the first home game for Denver. The Broncos got a terrific pass rush last week on Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck, a 19-3 upset victory. Since 1999, the Broncos and coach Mike Shanahan are an impressive 8-2 SU, 7-2-1 ATS at home in preseason! They've also won 10 of their last 12 home August games.

MONDAY

Here is tonight's selection:

20 Units Dallas -4

Simply put, the Titans don't care about this game. Tennessee has had to deal with injuries to the defense this preseason, and they've played remarkably well (2-0). But Coach Jeff Fisher indicated the starters may not see much action against the Cowboys but may get more work in the preseason finale against Green Bay Sept. 3. You won't see much of QB Steve McNair, and more of QBs Billy Volek and Jason Gesser. They are also still banged up defensively, and in the secondary CB Andre Dyson (thigh) won't play while CB Samari Rolle (ankle) will see just a few series. All in all, they are more interested in staying healthy. Which bodes very well for the home team, Bill Parcells' Cowboys. And since the offense hasn't played that well, Parcells will play QB Vinny Testaverde and the starters into the third quarter, treating the game as somewhat of a dress rehearsal for the season, leaving little mop-up time for the reserves. Dallas was embarrassed in the opener against Houston (18-0 loss) and this is their first home game, so expect to see a strong effort from the Cowboys. Parcells is 47-20 SU, 44-22 ATS in preseason as head coach (1-1 SU/ATS this August).

Thursday

Here are tonight's selections:

7 Units Houston Texans -3 -109

Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden is more interested in using this final preseason game as an evaluating tool for players, rather than to get the starters enough work. Jon Gruden said Brad Johnson may play only one series at Houston, followed by Brian Griese and Chris Simms. Simms has had a good August and will likely get the most time. The Bucs have already begun game-planning for the Washington Redskins, their regular-season opening opponent, so they are looking past this game. Also, through three preseason games, the Bucs have yet to field their projected starting lineups on offense or defense. Houston is home here after a tough two-game road trip where the defense was blasted badly by Pittsburgh and Denver. They did shutout the Cowboys (18-0) in their only home preseason game. QBs David Carr, Tony Banks and Dave Ragone will share time and Houston will likely be more interested in playing hard for the home folks here than the visitors. The Texans go to 2-0 SU/ATS at home this preseason.

10 Units Denver Broncos -5 -105

Well this will be a tough game for the 0-3 Arizona Cardinals. First-year coach Dennis Green has been plagued with bad luck, as Arizona has lost most of its key skill position speed. Wide receivers are thin with Bryant Johnson (foot), Anquan Boldin (knee) and rookie Larry Fitzgerald (sprained left ankle) out, and RB Marcel Shipp (knee) out. That's why the offense has averaged 11 ppg (they've been outscored by a 26-11 average). Denver has very good QB depth with Jake Plummer, Danny Kanell and rookie Matt Mauck, and running back depth with rookie Tatum Bell, Garrison Hearst and Cecil Sapp. However, the vast majority of the Broncos' starting lineup will make a cameo appearance at best here. They will look to avoid more injuries. Denver has only played one home game this preseason and ripped Houston 31-17 last week. So this is the second straight home game for Denver, a nice plus. Arizona was able to move the ball last week because of the Raiders poor pass defense. That won't be the case this week, making points for the visitors very tough to come by.

5 Units Seattle Seahawks -3 -108

Dante Culpepper and Gus Ferrotte combined for 31 of 41 for 330 yards on on Friday as the Vikings overwhelmed the San Francisco 49ers 23-10. Culpepper was in midseason form for the Vikings (2-1). When Gus Frerotte relieved Culpepper he completed his first nine passes, but the offense lost two key players in RB Michael Bennett (out 2 weeks) and starting offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie (sprained right knee). Also, coach Mike Tice said the starters won't see much time here, that the starters will play just "enough to sweat." Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck completed 18-of-28 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown to lead the Seahawks to a 26-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers. RB Shaun Alexander carried 15 times for 62 yards and a score for the Seahawks (2-1). Neither team will work their starters too long after both teams had impressive preseasons. Backups Trent Dilfer and Seneca Wallace have been impressive for Seattle.

10 Units New England Patriots -3 -108

A game more to stay healthy than to play all out. The Pats have lost two in a row (both on the road) and now come home, where they ripped the Eagles in the preseason opener. Jacksonville made headlines this week by cutting former All-Pro defensive end Hugh Douglas, one week after releasing fellow pass rush specialist Tony Brackens. Jack Del Rio's team comes into this game having surrendered a league-low 29 points during the preseason to date, including just seven against Green Bay. The Jags will seek improvement on the offensive end, where they have averaged just 9.3 points per preseason game, the second- lowest figure in the NFL. Jack Del Rio's Jaguars run a conservative, West Coast offense that is short of running backs right now, so don't expect a lot of points against the Patriots defense. RB Fred Taylor (sprained foot) did not play last week and may miss this game and the offensive line is banged up. The Patriots starters are likely to see limited action in this last exhibition game, but they have a lot of depth. QB Tom Brady will start, but Rohan Davey will get the majority of the playing time this game. Backup QB Kliff Kingsbury will mop up. Bill Belichick is 25-15 Su, 23-17-1 ATS in preseason. Counting last year's post and pre-season games, the Pats haven't lost a home game since 2002. This will be the first-ever preseason meeting between Jacksonville and New England, and sixth overall. The Patriots have won all three regular season matchups. Don't look for much scoring, particularly from the Jaguars.

two things you might consider which will make you seem more credible. First, update your YTD record fairly often (and not just recent results when you did well). Second, use a consistent unit size. If I start with small plays, and build up to 20 units (or whatever size), I can certainly "look" positive, when I'll I'm really doing is Martingale betting..

daringly,

I'm not going to pick 100% winners and if I like a play I'm going to unload!!! As you can tell, I don't put these out of a hat either. I keep all my selection in the same trend some that it is easier to find and follow!!! Talk to you later my friend!!!

FRIDAY

Not a great night last night, what the hell was I thinking??? Here are tonight's selections:

5 Units New York Jets -3

The Jets hold all the cards this game. Philadelphia has suffered a rash of injuries this preseason and the Eagles aren't expected to have many impact players on the field this game as Head Coach Andy Reid is expected to rest most of his key personnel. QB Koy Detmer, who missed the first three preseason games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, is expected to start and play the first half, with Jeff Blake playing the second. Reid said the starters would not play unless it was an emergency situation. Meanwhile, the NY Jets have home field and head coach Herman Edwards said almost every starter will play Friday against the Eagles, except RB Curtis Martin. The bad news for Jets fans is that newly signed QB Quincy Carter will play extensively in this one. Still, the New York defense has been playing exceptionally well under new defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, who has brought in an attacking, aggressive 'D'. The Jets are 2-0 SU/ATS the last two preseason games, holding the Colts to 7 points and the Giants to 10. Likely a low scoring game, too.

7 Units Cincinnati Bengals -4.5

Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy is more interested in staying healthy, especially after last week's 30-17 win over Buffalo. Peyton Manning and most of the offensive starters will open the game but play just a few plays. Either QB Cory Sauter or Joe Hamilton will then take over. The Colts are also banged up a bit: Indianapolis Colts punt and kickoff returner Brad Pyatt and cornerback Joseph Jefferson could miss four weeks with injuries. Also the running back corps is battered, so rookie free agents Ran Carthon, Dan Davis, Carey Davis and second-year FB Tom Lopienski will get carries Friday at Cincinnati. RB James Mungro (wrist) is expected to miss the game, RB Dominic Rhodes will play little, if at all, and starter Edgerrin James is not scheduled to play. Meanwhile, Cincy QB Carson Palmer will play at least one quarter and might play more, coach Marvin Lewis said. Also, Bengals WR Peter Warrick will play. The Bengals have a good QB depth this game with Palmer and Jon Kitna getting plenty of work. Good spot for the home team to take advantage of the ailing visitors.
