2010 MLB National League - Outright SportsInteraction

Los Angeles Dodgers +10-1 SportsInteraction

Los Angeles Dodgers +2-1 to win the NL West SportsInteraction

Plain and simple, this line is ridiculous when you consider that the Braves are 2-1, the Phillies and Cards are roughly 5-1 and that the Dodgers are the seventh choice. Are you kidding? The Dodgers are the best team in the National League and while they may not win it, the value on them is too great to pass up on. As it stands right now, the Dodgers are just two games back of the Padres for the division lead and San Diego is going to fade, that you can count on. The Padres have a weak offense, an average pitching staff and everything went right for them in the first half. The Rockies are also two games back but pitching at Coors tends to wear starters down and the Rocks are simply not as good as the Dodgers. The Dodgers have it all. They have the best starting five in the league with Kershaw, Billingsley, Kuroda, Ely and Vincent Padilla. They have six regulars that are batting over .290 with four of those batting over .300. The Dodgers bullpen is really its only weakness but that can change in a heartbeat, as all bullpens can run hot and cold. Anyway, the Dodgers are going to the playoffs, at worst as a Wild Card but more likely as the division winner and should that come to pass with odds at 10-1, we can really hedge our wager and earn a nice profit. Play: Los Angeles +10-1 to win the National League (Risking 6 units). Play: Los Angeles +2.00 to win the NL West (Risking 2 units). Note: The larger bet on the Dodgers is so that we can hedge nicely once the playoffs roll around.

GAME: (946) AMERICAN LEAGUE vs (945) NATIONAL LEAGUE
SPORT: MLB
PICKS: Under
REASON FOR PICK: Take the Under in the All Star Game on Tuesday. Whether it is one of the ramifications of the (supposed) post-steroid era or just the result of years of catch-up major league franchises have had to do in drafting more pitchers to compensate for expansion, the pitchers are getting the upper-hand over the hitters this season. National League batters are hitting .257 this season -- as compared to the collective .259 batting average in the NL last season. The OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) differences are more significant as the NL OPS this season is down to .729 from its .739 mark in '09. The AL changes are even more telling. While the AL produced a .267 batting average last season, AL hitters are batting only .262 this year. The OPS differences are even starker as the AL's .741 mark is much lower than last season's .764 OPS. Both sides will have the services of some dominating starting pitchers: Josh Johnson, Ubaldo Jimenez, Tim Lincecum and Adam Wainwright highlight the NL's staff; David Price, C.C. Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Jon Lester and Jered Weaver (who is dominant at home in Angels Stadium) look good for the AL. Finally, Angels Stadium is a pitcher's park with its spacious outfield that is 330 feet away at each pole while 365/370 in right center and 387 in left center. Homeruns in many parks are long flyball outs in Anaheim. The Under is the smart play here. Best of luck -- Frank.

The National League owns a 40-38-2 all-time series record over the American League, but hasn't won the All-Star Game since 1996. Look for the American League to take their 14 in a row in a low soring contest.

Play: Money Line: -122 American League Play Title:
AL - The NL maybe stacked on the mound, but this AL line-up is tough. I like Giradi, and he will be thinking home field in Oct at Yankee stadium, plus Charlie Manual is a DOPE. How does he leave Billy Wagner off the Roster??? AL wins in walk-off fashion by 1, for the 5th yeat in a row.
