So how does one reconcile the actions of our government with the belief it's not a life threatening disease to the vast majority of us. Because of the threat to higher risk demographics. I believe, as we're told, that older people or or people with compromised immunity systems are at great risk. It might mean nearly certain death to some, like somebody with COPD. So these precautions are being taken to protect them. The loss of life in those demographics can be significant. Just look at what happened to the nursing home in Washington, where the deaths couldn't be stopped and spread like wildfire. Those are the people we're protecting
That's my theory, also supported by the nonstop drumbeat about high risk demographics
I could write a dissertation on this right now, but I'll spare you Willie and just focus on what you said. My issue is the disingenuous way the mortality rate is presented throughout the internet and with the media. If the media and many of these medical professional truly wanted to paint an honest picture, instead of just focusing on the mortality rate of seniors on this virus, they could make the comparison with all infectious diseases. I suspect you would find similar numbers. To sit there and make claims about people in their 70's and 80's without something to compare it to just show what the narrative is to me. The life expectancy in the US is like 79 years old. It's clear people in this group have a higher mortality rate for any disease (not just this one). But I guess the Nielsen ratings get better if you make it appear like this is some special case and people in that age range don't have problems with everything down to the common cold.
On another note, I am temporarily unemployed because my health club shut down. We don't have a concern on the financial side, but my employer has shown their true colors through this thing. Prior to shutting down on Monday, we were training our clients and there was ongoing cleaning going on. This whole close proximity rule had been out there for weeks (the new buzzword is social distancing). After they close, they sent out an email saying it was forbidden to train people outside the facility (not in our contract) and they started preaching how we could put all our clients in extreme risk, etc. So the two weeks before and leading up to Monday, it was no problem (again, all this info was already known), and the day after we close, it's not. Then they send out an email to the clients that we would be practicing "social distancing" and doing Skype workouts (which was news to all of us and never discussed)...clearly so they could keep their revenue stream going. Most of these people wouldn't know how to Skype, not to mention, many have balance issues. Quite frankly, training like that would be just as irresponsible and would probably get someone hurt badly. The whole thing is one, big clusterfuck.
