5 people have tested positive for coronavirus at my daughter's hospital. Two arising from unknown sources who were admitted and released. Three were from one family that just returned from Italy. They were drive through tested.

All five were sent home to self quarantine. No life threatening situations, no hospital beds, no respirators, no crunch on our medical system, no deaths.

Very similar cases to Tom Hanks and his wife, very similar to all the athletes and celebrities we know about

This is not the apocalypse, there's more hyperbole than truth being reported

It's serious, it's contagious, it's a real threat to certain demographics, it's nothing more than a nuisance to the vast majority of us

Why aren’t you being attacked by the mob for voicing this very reasonable opinion?

I hope they recover soon Willie.....the main thing is how fast and contagious this thing is....people are comparing the regular flu to it and it's different because of how fast it spreads that's the main concern here. And yes I think the numbers we are seeing are way off...I'm reading every 30 minutes it seems how many more are infected it's getting insane. We need to slow this thing down!

Well said. Its almost as like the worst this gets that people here are taking personal offense to it and feel forced to minimize it...be smart, listen to the professionals. The biggest threat isn't the few that are overreacting its the larger number that are underreacting. Hell, in Illinois the bars were already setting up the tents for st. paddy day, before the laws stopped it...

Anecdotal. Means nothing in the big picture.

i dont think Trump would put the economy to lay in the balance if the threat was minimal. He's a businessman, doeant add up. The big question is after this short shut down across N America, do they let businesses get back to work? going to be ugly if thats a no

from another forum ( a small business owner);

'Can I STOP paying rent during the COVID-19 crisis?'

if this is extended, how does this end well?

It doesn't. Its like a natural disaster for the entire world. I would say this next month is basically going to be the hurricane and you can only hunker down. Access the damage once the disaster is over, then come together as Americans and even as citizens of the world and help each other get back on our feet.

I read they’re now saying it has lasting effects on lungs. Not sure how true that is.

this work stoppage has to be short lived, get people back to work, CANNOT crush the economy, that's a fuckin double whammy . In S Korea there was little panic, no hoarding toilet paper. Clear communication between govt/health agencies and citizens. Fuck govt is texting citizens with updates. Thye r over the hump/peak apparently. Here in N American we have panic, no one knows who to believe, no clear direction..

That's the way it's heading.....just said most all California schools will likely be out the rest of the school year. Everything will have to shut down for a period of time in order to get ahead of this thing there's no way around it....the cases keep going up and up the spread is too fast only way to slow it down it CUT OFF people interaction for a time....half the people who have it don't even know they have it that's the worst part of the spreading and it won't slow down unless serious measures are taken. We all want our reality back the sooner all this happens the better so we can deal with what the outcome will be as a country...it's going to be what it will be but this spread needs to slow down and it isn't

So how does one reconcile the actions of our government with the belief it's not a life threatening disease to the vast majority of us. Because of the threat to higher risk demographics. I believe, as we're told, that older people or or people with compromised immunity systems are at great risk. It might mean nearly certain death to some, like somebody with COPD. So these precautions are being taken to protect them. The loss of life in those demographics can be significant. Just look at what happened to the nursing home in Washington, where the deaths couldn't be stopped and spread like wildfire. Those are the people we're protecting

That's my theory, also supported by the nonstop drumbeat about high risk demographics

Maybe all people over 60 should stay home and the rest of the nation can go and sit in a restaurant if they want to. The nanny state continues as the idiot public gets the government they deserve.
