HOW is a fine line. The last sentence at bottom of this tells me someone else was sleeping on the job?

The shooter got into the school before Peterson Arrived…. THIS is the HOW? From the little I know… How did he get in? And shoot 11 before Peterson, is my Question…

Peterson arrived at the 1200 building after the shooter killed 11 people on the first floor of the building. He heard shots fired and ran to a safe position and stayed there for 48 minutes, occasionally using his radio to try to relay information to other law enforcement.

Peterson, 60, was the first U.S. law enforcement officer to be prosecuted for his alleged actions and inaction during a mass shooting at a school.

The jury's verdict was seen by legal experts as a case that will set a precedent on how responding officers can be held legally accountable for their actions during a mass shooting.

Peterson's defense

In his closing argument, Mark Eiglarsh, Peterson's lawyer, told jurors that Peterson did all that he could during the mass shooting.

His case began and ended with the assertion that what happened on the day of the shooting was the fault of the shooter, not Peterson. He argued that the radio calls Peterson made and the "tactical position" he took outside of the 1200 building were "heroic."

"He doesn't know that there's one shooter. Nobody knows that. We have the luxury in this courtroom of hindsight," Eiglarsh told jurors.

Witnesses called by Eiglarsh described the confusion of that day, and said they couldn't pinpoint where shots were coming from either. Some also spoke positively to Peterson's character as a school resource officer.

Eiglarsh maintained that

Peterson was a scapegoat for larger systematic failings of the Broward Sheriffs Office and other public officials.

Go Reds….
Not so, IMO I’ll say as further details and reminders that BEFORE Peterson arrived 11 were dead. Question probaly on jurors minds was HOW did shooter walk in? Were all doors secure? Is their video? Was security at school watching you tube or security camera’s? How did Shooter get in school?
Interesting ?

There was no security. Shooter took an Uber to the school. Came during last period where it was easier to get in parking lot. Shooter wore an MSD tshirt to fit in.

the building where he did the shooting is a separate building on campus. SRO was not in the building when initial shots were fired.

Ironic thing is that Peterson had one of the best SRO jobs in the country. This school has one of the best demographic for a public school in the county.

The school itself is at fault! I hope all in charge get their walking papers and the families of those who lost their lives are given their pensions.…..We always people talk about what steps will be taken to prevent other massacres butt… These people involved with their Taxpayer Incomes go on a cruise and step onto a beach and have a Bloody Mary on the Blood bath they do nothing about!

If anyone lives nearby take a drive over to this school and check security… and report back… thank you…

I live less than 2 miles from the school.

let’s just say security has change BIGLY in all these schools since 2018.

I’ve been on campus a number of times since the incident but always with purpose. Honestly, I don’t even think of the “how” when I’m on campus. Don’t even want to take any pics when on campus either.

I’ve seen parents taken pics of their kids with that building in the background. Gives me the creeps

Final thoughts after another Reds Rally…

Life goes on.... Schools talked "how" they were going to step up security after Sandy Hook in 2012. IMO always has and will always be State Social workers that need re-training.

Three caseworkers and two supervisors at Lackawanna County’s Office of Youth and Family Services in Scranton were arrested on felony charges of child endangerment and failing to report abuse, days after state authorities downgraded the county agency’s license.

Lastly this clip from Miami Herald…. Bullet point…. Supreme Court ruled…

Prosecutors might not have done themselves any favors in charging Peterson with child neglect. According to The New York Times, jurors would have to agree that he was a “caregiver” responsible for the students’ welfare. “Even the judge expressed skepticism from the bench at the argument that the former deputy’s inaction could be said to have ‘caused’ harm.”

And there may be precedent: In 1989, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that police are not always constitutionally required to help a victim against violence.

Five years on, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting continues to roil our expectations of elected officials, appointed leaders, law-enforcement officers and Florida law — for good and for ill.

The guy let children be shot. On his watch. I can't even begin to imagine that. I am wired completely differently.

Fuck him.

And how does a jury not find him guilty?
I agree with you, but the SC ruled in 05 I think that police don't have a responsibility to act. Goes against the role of the job imo.

Supreme Court did rule... In 1989, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that police are not always constitutionally required to help a victim against violence. Need a Lawyer to interpret this?

He can be called a coward but the school was responsible! I don't doubt Parkland shooting ends with this verdict... Look at post #24. entrance was not secure nor was their anyone there to stop him? Just waiting for next massacre Go Reds!
