Possibly the counselor has a recommendation based upon the student's interests, or strengths and weaknesses in certain areas of study. The kid wants to be steered in some direction. But your daughter already had a field of interest, something many 16-17 year olds wish they had. And this mope steered her away. Strange. Glad she held firm in her beliefs and prospects.

Me too. Most parents biggest fear is their kids will turn out to be a dolts.

When they make something of themselves it gives you a sense of accomplishment.
