Easy one.

you can probably use those same numbers for other areas, too:

7% of French bathe every day/use deodorant
7% of French treat people better than their dogs and with respect
7% of French put up a fight instead of surrendering at the 1st sign of trouble
7% of French would still be speaking French if not for the USA bailing out their asses (once again) in WW II
7% of French women shave their armpits/legs/etc.

for the record - i have been to france, so if someone wants to ask me that - don't bother.

WindyDuck - Great points. I don't know how long you have been following Grantt's anti US attitude but it's pointless to respond. He/she has already been outed by other posters. He's/She's just here to start sh!t. All he does is go to other websites and copy and paste articles that may or may not be true. He/She can't think for himself/herself.

If you think about it, what a sad life he/she must have to need to come here and make others look small so he/she can feel better about himself/herself (maybe he is both male and female).

Any person that attempts to correlate the quality of life in a country by the physical characteristics that some, and the great minority may I add, may have.....well, it's truly not worth the time debating an idiot such as this. His only intention is to provoke americans and anyone "pro-american". That study is out in left field if it says that the Czechs and former East Germans are fatter than Canadians. I would boink every third Czech or East German woman, while 8 out of 10 Canadians would be instantly excluded from consideration due to fatness.

And IMO a country's future prospects DO depend heavily on its obesity level. Obesity correlates with less sex, more complacency and adherence to hedonistic values. True they also consume more and, therefore, figure to have a stronger economy, but that was the key to success in the past only. Going forward, power and national security is starting to depend on other values most of which correlate negatively with obesity.

According to that chart, Russian women were 2-3 times more likely to be obese than their male counterparts.

Also, FWIW the CDC(I guess) considers me to be overweight with my high BMI. This study might use similar data i.e. they make no distinction between fat and muscle thereby skewing the results toward flabbiness.

Its a combination of a lack of exercise, plus those processed foods we all have now.

Anyway, isn't being a porky a big advantage up there in treeville?

I could barely function outside when I was there in the winter, I was just too darn skinny for that huge meatlocker called Canada.(160 lbs)
It sucked the heat right out of your BONES, I never felt anything like that before.
30 minutes outside was about my limit before everything started shutting down.

And yet in the sub-arctic mountains of Scotland I could walk and climb all day long (with icicles hanging off me) with no problems.

If you want skinny people, head south towards the sunshine hunney pie.
