Well, not everyone gets a trophy, and basketball is a star sport, where one or two guys makes a huge difference. I'm sure if teams could win with short white dudes they'd draft them.

The teams are much more sophisticated than the average fan thinks. Atleast a lot of them are, they track pretty much everything all the way down to how many times a guy rubs his balls on the court.
Guys slip through the cracks in every sport. Doesn't mean't the entire process of talent evaluation is flawed.

No clue who you are even referring to. Most teams place the highest emphasis on a PG being good in the screen/roll since that is the main way of initiating offense in the league now.

The game has changed the last 4-5 years more than it changed the previous 20.
Scoring went down in the 90s because teams understood how to stretch the rules and developed better defensive schemes. Then offensively there was no illegal defense so the best thing to do was just to isolate all day. ISOing has been going down steadily every single year and offensive efficiency has been improving since teams got more analytical in their approach to the game.

Yeah well a lot of former players are pretty bad at evaluating talent. You got your exceptions like Bird, Ainge and West but for a little awhile teams were just hiring way too many former players and putting them in charge of basketball operations (Isiah Thomas being the crowning example)
Now you got guys like Daryl Morey or RC Buford running the teams and they can be a little more objective and knowledgeable in how to build a team.

Their approach has changed significantly over the years.
They went from primarily being a postup team to primarily being a screen/roll team, they were the first team to discover the increased efficiency that comes from shooting corner 3s, they were the first team to understand how to manage player minutes. Gregg Popovich has been with the Spurs since 1996, why do you think he wasn't doing this stuff in 1996 but was doing it in 2012?
All that has happened recently and all of it has data that supports its implementation.
