I think it's only fair to you to wait until the NFL Appeal is heard by the Appellate Court, so I can't claim victory yet.

just send $ 500 for now

after the AC, the loser can take it to the SC, god forbid

I'm hoping reasonable minds prevail and the owners tell Goodall to drop it, maybe Brady settles for a fine or something. But it's not officially over yet

Not sure if this has been brought up, but shouldn't we set the deadline for kickoff Thursday? I am assuming some people will take the Pats. If they happen to lose, would it be fair to let people in at that point? If they win no harm, but I think we need to make a call before hand.

Good point. The Pats fans on here would say that is impossible but you are probably right. Makes no difference to me.

no, picks are kept secret until Sunday at 1:00

to me, it's no different than any other week when there's a Thursday game, nobody knows your pick unless you choose to disclose it

it's also consistent with only survivor contests, which actually keep registration open to like 12:55 PM EST, 5 minutes before Sunday's kickoff.

we do it on Friday to make sure everybody can get in, trying to avoid timing issues since treasurers might not be available and somebody also has to tell contestants how to sign up

Oh I didn't realize it kept Thursday pick secret if you chose to pick it. That makes sense.

The flaw in this is that the Patriots are the biggest week 1 favorites. Decent chance they will be picked by people. So if they lose, then others can buy in after knowing that some portion of the field already has 1 strike. It is essentially a freeroll on the Thursday game for those that pay after.

You could say that nobody is going to go to that length of angle shooting but with 5-10k (no clue what the entries # is at) on the line, why do we even have to risk it?

I think it is a complete no brainer that paying by Thurs evening should be the cutoff.

Nobody is picking the Steelers so you could make it if the Pats lose then entry is closed, if they win then anyone can get in until Sunday.

Just don't think you can allow the people selecting the Pats to get freerolled by people joining after they got a strike but whatever works.

Somewhat unfortunate 1 of the chalk week 1 picks happens to play the opening Thurs game.
