Don't like not having a backup for Brady, but I'm sure Bill has something figured out.

You think the Pats could have gotten more for him if they pulled the trigger before the season, but they must have wanted to see how Brady was going to hold up.

They did move move up with Jimmy being drafted at the end of the second round now they have a beginning of second round pick.

The odds aren't good for him to finish the year strong. His first time as the full time starter and it is with the 2nd worst but Kyle Shanahan is widely regarded as 1 of the best offensive minds in the league. Look at what he's done with RG3, Cousins and even Matt Schaub. Ryan's career was beginning to flounder before he turned him into an MVP.

It isn't like a lot of the good teams need QB's and he could go anywhere, I'd say Jimmy G landed in a pretty good spot overall as far as being able to maximize his talents in the long-term.

And @Kim Il Sung, late 1st/high 2nd rd picks have the highest surplus value of all picks. Not as big of value as it was before the new CBA when you had to pay top 10 picks a higher % of the cap but still very high value.

There is a pretty good read on it. I think they could've gotten more 6 months ago, but likely only slightly more. They were just holding onto him to see if a team would get put in a tough spot and come with a Carson Palmer to Oakland or Bradford to Minnesota type offer.

Patriots agree to 3-year deal with QB Brian Hoyer.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots and free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer have reached agreement on a three-year contract, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Hoyer returns to the team where his NFL career began as an undrafted player out of Michigan State in 2009. He served as Tom Brady's backup through the 2011 season before moving on to stops with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2012), Arizona Cardinals (2012), Cleveland Browns (2013-14), Houston Texans (2015), Chicago Bears (2016) and San Francisco 49ers (2017).
Hoyer was released by the 49ers on Tuesday after they acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots in exchange for a 2018 second-round draft choice.
The 32-year-old Hoyer joins Brady as the two quarterbacks on the Patriots' roster. They have remained close friends over the years.
Hoyer has started 37 career games, which gives the Patriots an experienced option behind the 40-year-old Brady. He has a record of 16-21, completing 59.3 percent of his passes with 48 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
His background in the Patriots' system made him the obvious choice to fill the in-season void created by the Garoppolo trade, though New England wasn't the only team that expressed interest in signing him.
Hoyer signed a two-year deal with the 49ers in free agency this year and entered the season as the clear-cut starter for the first time in his nine-year career. He started the first six games before he was benched in favor of rookie C.J. Beathard in the team's loss to Washington on Oct. 16.
"We really want to thank Brian for everything he brought to our organization," 49ers general manager John Lynch said Tuesday. "He's been a true pro, both when he had the opportunity to be the guy and then when we made the move to move on to C.J. He's been nothing but supportive in every manner. We wish Brian the best going forward."

Great addition for the Pats. Hoyer is going to end up w/ a hell of a career as - mostly - a back up QB. What's this deal worth?

Garoppolo carved Jacksonville up, completing 21 for 30 passes for 242 yards with TD throws to George Kittle and Trent Taylor as San Francisco pulled away in the second half. Garoppolo improved to 6-0 in his career as a starter.

It’s an amazing story. Funny how Cleveland wanted him bad and NE wouldn’t trade him to the Browns.

The funny thing is many teams wanted to give them more then a 1st in the offseason but the pats wanted 2 1st.
Then they Trade that plug to Indy and got more for him then they got for JG.

I have to believe coach will be hanging it up the moment Brady retires .

He would never let JG get away if he was planning on being around for 5 more years

As soon as Billichick and/ or Brady leave that team will be cellar dwellers for the next decade.

The AFC should be wide open very soon. All the main players are on their way out. Oakland/ Jax/ Colts should be the main players. Laugh at Colts now but Luck makes that big of a difference between going 3-13 and 11-5.

5-0

The 49ers improved to 5-0 with a 20-7 victory over the two-time defending division champion Rams. As a result, the Rams are now in a precarious situation as they fall to 3-3, including 0-2 within the NFC West.
