Fade System
Hey Tate... I've been following your fade system for a few weeks, and might I start by saying that you're doing a great job... I've just got some questions and concerns about your system that perhaps could help some things, particularly on the first fade...
My first thought on this was to only go with the 2nd fade, since teams in your first fade are losing for the year... but without seeing your record over a holistic season or a few seasons, I can't say that the first fade system is one that doesn't work... Off of the small sample set of this year, it'd be better to fade a team on their second attempt only. I'm going to assume, yet still feel required to ask what the record/net is on the first fade (again, though I know this is a progressive system).
An example would be tonight's Washington/Denver game... I think as NBA fans we all don't expect Washington to end up being the best team in the East, meaning what goes up must come down. On the same token, we thought that Denver was going to be a slightly better team than they currently are. That being said, the fade is already built into Vegas' line. Should this game have been played three weeks ago, the line probably would have been a pick 'em. The one thing I don't notice with you that I do notice with other cappers is a built in final score, or somewhat of a projection on a final score. I understand that this is why these games are 0.5 unit plays, but perhaps would it be better to either A) stay away from the games or B) perhaps make them moneyline plays, figuring that a team is going to quit on a win, but not necessarily ATS. This came up again in the Charlotte west coast swing, by the Clips not covering, yet still winning in the end, and by Sacramento hanging on late to cover. Just curious on your thoughts....
Another thought on a trend I've noticed within your system... I don't have the numbers, as I haven't been hard core tracking this, but Bud and I (he's one of my roommates... probably should've mentioned that earlier) have noticed that teams that you select to quit that didn't quit in the first half, have quit in the 2nd half half (for example, Charlotte two nights ago against the Clippers... though it took 2 OTs, the Clips covered the 2nd half line). Would this be something that you would consider putting into your system, though it's clearly contrary to what a lot of people believe at times (that should a team be a bigger dog in the 2nd half than for the game that they cover the 2nd half the vast majority of the time).
Again Tate, I'm with you all the way on this one from here on out. I think you've got the sort of system that I tried developing for college basketball and have effectively used it in the pros. These are just some little quirks that I've noticed that could make some things better. Let me know what you think.
