Mussy put together an all-star group of recruiters.... but UGA will certainly pass them (right now 6 less commits) by next February.

FSU and Clemson will also be closing very fast so don't expect Arizona or USCe to be in top 10 in the end

T Robinson is an outstanding recruiter but I can't think of another USCe assistant I would call an all-star. Steele had a decent reputation when at bama but I think most of his glitter has worn off. McClendon is a good recruiter and held the title of recruiting coordinator at Ga for a year, but he is not elite. He's going to find out recruiting to USCe is far more difficult than selling kids on Ga. I expect Boom and Robinson to do most of the defensive recruiting while Bentley uses his high school connections in state to recruit the offense.

Either way, it won't matter. Despite Boom picking up a few big names on the defensive side, it is going to be a rocky road ahead. Ga, bama and a few other big names will raid the state for the blue chips that Clemson doesn't get. When the smoke clears USCe will finish far back in the recruiting rankings. The fact 14 of their current 20 commitments rank 3 star or less and their avg star ranking falls outside the top 20, proves that out.

Should have said Lance Thompson instead of Steele -- all bama ex-coaches look alike to use Barners.
while a piece of shit as a person and a joke of a coach Thompson is an absolutely phenomenal recruiter. He was "recruiter of the year" at least once, maybe twice, and was lead on a few guy you might have heard of....Julio Jones, Mark Barron, Robert Lester, AJ McCarron, DJ Fluker, Trent Richardson, Chance Warmack among others. Brought on a few kids that should be top players this year...Ro Foster, D'Shawn Hand, Jonathan Allen so I'm pretty comfortable saying he was the single best recruiter in the Saban era.

great recruiter, shitty coach...much like the guy he reports to at USCe. Glad he's not here anymore but he established a level of recruiting i've never seen before from a single person

haven't followed him as a recruiter since he left but if the glitter is gone only has himself to blame ...

heard he recently remarried a super rich broad (like uber-rich....) so at this point coaching might just be a hobby to him.

you mentioned Kevin Steele...another guy i consider to be a great recruiter, shitty coach. but you will find that out first-hand this season ;)

I know Thompson did a fantastic job recruiting at bama and I'm sure you know more about him than I do. My opinion is biased by his short time at AU. He was not involved in the recruiting aspect as much as I had expected and when he was involved the results were pretty underwhelming. He lobbied hard for the defensive coordinator job after Muschamp left but that didn't go too well for him.

Not sure he wouldn't have been a better choice though than the one we made. I agree with you 100 percent, Steele was a horrible hire. But it is hard to bring in a top notch DC when your head coach is on the hot seat and there isn't much security. Steele ended up with the job by default more or less. We don't have bama or LSU talent on the defensive side but we are one corner away from being very good. If Steele can't field a decent D with the talent he has this year he never will.
