DR. WHO & WHY
PREAKNESS 2010

#1 AIKENITE (20-1)........Sire ' Yes Its True' was strictly a sprinter but this guy can handle the distance. Ive never taken the Derby Trial horses too serious in the triple crown races as they are typically a notch or 2 below the elite. Dangerous Castellano takes the mount but his very best would be 5th or 6th. Pass...............

#2 SCHOOLYARD DREAMS (15-1)........This guy is dangerous here as he has shown a nice turn of foot in The TB Derby while beating Saver Saver. The Effort in the Wood Mem is deceiving since Eskendereya won by approx 10 lgths, i fully expect a big effort here and should not go off 15-1. Capable Eibar Coa aboard.........

#3 PLEASANT PRINCE (20-1) Doubt he will be heard from in this race and looks more like a filler. Hot shot Leparoux takes the mount..........

#4 NORTHERN GIANT (30-1).........Another filler here as son of Giants Causeway has yet to win anything but a $34k maiden race. Over his head..........

#5 YAWANNA TWIST (30-1)..........Sire Yanaguska was a sprinter but this guy has yet to run a bad race and the dist is fine with him. May get his name called a couple times but looks a notch below. Dutrow/Prado combo gives him a board shot..........

#6 JACKSON BEND (12-1)............Gets a chance to make a statement here since he obviously didnt like the slop at Churchill. Another one who can run big if he gets a decent trip. Note he ran 2nd twice to Eskenderya and may be better than most of these. Smith keeps the mount. Dangerous..........

#7 LOOKIN AT LUCKY (3-1)........Can he get a nice trip and strutt his stuff?? Baffert replaces Gomez with Matt Garcia and he draws a nice post. Big opportunity for the 2yr old champ make amends. He is the real deal so lets see if he can avoid trouble. May end up going off favorite............

#8 SUPER SAVER (5-2).......Derby winner has Borel extremely confidant and who can argue with him?? Looks to be improving and may uncork his best in this spot. Another stalking rail trip with limited early speed in the race??..............

#9 CONCORTADO (10-1).......Although he looks tough as can be, i dont trust the West coast horses simply because they typically dont run to form. Jock/trainer combo has nice % but im leaning to others. Note his last workout on may 8 is at SA.......

#10 PADDY O PRADO (9-2).......Cant find fault with son of world-beater El Prado outside of el prado being a grass specialist. I dont think Paddy knows this since he has been fine on either one. Loomed boldly in the Derby at 12-1 barely missing place in the final strides. Cannot eliminate as he will emerge around the mile. Look out............

#11 FIRST DUDE (20-1)...........Looks over his head but should make a decent showing early on but doubt he can handle this type when the real running starts. Pass............

#12 DUBLIN (20-1).........D Wayne gets Gomez so this guy means business. Ill toss the derby for obvious reasons and expect a huge effort here. Son of Afleet Alex went for $525k so his best is coming. Better than 20-1 and is NOT outclassed . Upset shot but dont be too surprised.....

Race 12) 1 3/16 Miles Preakness-G1 1,000,000

#3 Pleasant Prince* Morning Line 20-1.

This one will go off ...... Long. He's got one win in 9 starts,

finished 9 lengths back in last, and 9 lengths back in prior.

His confirmation looked average when he sold for only 30k

at auction, and many think he's more of a pack type horse.

So what am I looking at ?

Connections (The Ramsey Family), really wanted this one

in the Derby, but he ended up 21st in total earnings and just missed.

On April 10th, they ran him on artificial turf for the 2nd time.

He didn't do well. But.... he didn't do well with his only other try on

this surface, when at 2, he recorded a low 64 Beyer.

On April 24th, his last chance for a Derby shot, he never really fired on

a very muddy track. But... he was passing horses at the end.

Let's go back to The Florida Derby on March 20th.

This colt got away almost last, kept moving forward, and just missed

(after getting bumped around) to Ice Box in a photo.

Ice Box was 2nd in The Derby and was coming on strongly at the end.

And................ Missing the Derby isn't a bad thing.

These races wear down a horse. The trainer, Ward, an ex-Jockey,

likes his chances today. What a surprise, as owners, we always seem

to find reasons to like our stock.

Today he might be right.

Most importantly, if the arguments presented above, have

any validity, I'm not passing the opportunity at these odds.

# 7 Lookin At Lucky*

I didn't like this one in The Derby, because I thought that he had

matured less in the off season than some of the others. I thought he

had shown his best as a super 2 year old.

Lots have jumped off his bandwagon. I'm going in the reverse direction.

He had a Very rough trip in The Derby, and still gained 15 lengths

from the start, and then running out of track.

I didn't think he had the stamina for the longer distances. I may have been wrong.

Baffert has decided to switch from Gomez to Garcia.

#8 Super Saver*

Can't knock his Derby performance. Can he do the same on

a faster surface today? Borel gets the mount.

A Borel has now won the Kentucky 4 times.

Charles Borel won on Omar Khayyam, in 1917.

VEGAS RUNNER
2010 PREAKNESS STAKES : “TOP 3 HORSES”

1.) SUPER SAVER

Bottom Line…this has now become the “horse to beat” in the race, and with ESKENDEREYA, who is a monster…not a part of this year’s “Triple Crown” races…it will be very tough for someone to cross the finish line before Calvin Borel and Super Saver, from what I’ve been told…And believe it or not, a couple of winning horse bettors here in Vegas went as far as saying this horse may very well win the “Triple Crown” this year, if it can get the win today…Not because Super Saver is the next Secretariat or anything close…but because the level of competition is weak…

This horse has had the best BEYER RATING (104) of the entire field…and with Pletcher finally getting that win in the Derby…the pressure is off and he can now simply enjoy himself…

From what I’ve been told…this horse has the ability to actually go “wire to wire” in this race, if of course Pletcher has that in the game-plan…Otherwise, he has the pedigree to to get there late…This horse has NOT run a bad race yet…and his BEYER RATING continues to climb in the right direction…

So as much as pro horse bettors like to find those diamonds in the rough with a huge payout…most agree that we may not get that today because SUPER SAVER will be extremely hard to beat.

2.) JACKSON BEND

This was the horse that we used for the Kentucky Derby, on top…But the sloppy track waªs something he wasn’t used to and had never before raced in…so his 12th place finish shouldn’t be all that surprising…And it’s that 12th place finish that should offer a nice price on this horse…

With the track expected to be FAST…Jackson Bend will have an advantage today because he definitely possesses speed…His workout on Monday is still being talked about, and besides the bad run he had in the Derby…Jackson Bend seems prime to finally get a win…

Because 2 times, he finished 2nd to that monster I spoke about earlier…ESKENDEREYA, which is nothing to be ashamed about…

His BEYER RATING is an impressive “100”…which puts him right behind Super Saver in that regard…And the Preakness will definitely suit him best as far as pedigree goes…More importantly, it appears that Nick Zito knows this well…and that’s why even after such a bad showing in the Derby…he was willing to come right back and enter him in the Preakness…

Bottom Line…it wouldn’t shock me at all to see his speed dominate the race early on, with such a fast track…And he just may have what it takes to finally get past that 2nd place hurdle…We should get some value on Jackson Bend, even with all the talk about that Monday workout…Which is why I will not only go ahead and use him in some exotics with the other 2...But I will also have him across the board.

3.) LOOKING AT LUCKY

Finished a surprising 6th at the Derby, but once again…we have to be careful when looking at that race to handicapp this one because the track was a mess…But today may be a different story for this Bob Baffert trained horse…

He has amazing closing speed I’ve been told who should have no problems tackling this distance…And it’s that closing speed that means we have to add him to our exotics…But it’s also that closing speed which may very well allow Looking At Lucky to redeem himself by crossing the finish line first and getting the win for Baffert who absolutely loves this horse…

The good thing is that bettors seem to have gotten away from Looking At Lucky, which may just provide us with some definite betting value at the window…And of the 3, he has the lowers BEYER RATING (98)…which may also turn the bettors off and increase his price…

Bottom Line…this horse was purchased for $500k, and was expected to do great things…He’s ran 1st on 5 different occasions…with 1 second and 1 third…before the Derby…So don’t be surprised if he gets back to doing what he’s used to doing…WINNING RACES…

I am hoping that we get a nice price on this horse…so that I can not only bet him “across the board”…but also have him increase the payback on some exotics that we’ll be tying him up in.

SUPER-FECTAS :

DUBLIN & PADDY o PRADO….

I went ahead and added those 2 to a Super-Fecta Ticket…Just for the action and a chance at a nice score…lol

My pleasure Meathead! Just my luck the one time I have the winner which only paid $6.80 I have no $$$$$ to put down on it. I usually don't bet horses only the big races, "best 2 minutes"! Hope everyone cashed their tickets and if you didn't you weren't set back much.:toast:
