OMM,

I wish I had read your posts on 9/6.

Do you still have any good feelings after the line moves?

For any of the Newbies, OMM is one of the real good ones!

Thanks and heres to another great year of CFB.

-For NU mistakes must be minimized after six turnovers were committed against Western Illinois, in addition to at least six other blunders by the Nebraska special teams. QB Joe Dailey threw four interceptions, including a pass into double coverage and another throw he attempted when he should have run out of bounds.

-NU also gave up a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by James Norris after Norris had run another one back 75 yards. On special teams last year, the Golden Eagles were one of the nation’s best. Junior kickoff returner John Eubanks ranked No. 4 nationally in kick returns in 2003, averaging 29.4 yards on 17 returns. He had five returns of over 30 yards, and scored on a 94-yard return against Cincinnati. Senior Marvin Young ranked No. 10 nationally, as he averaged 13.6 yards per punt return. Young returned punts for over 50 yards three times last season, while scoring on an 87-yard return against Memphis.

-Defensively, the Cornhuskers held Western Illinois to -3 rushing yards in their opening win. The Nebraska defense recorded 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks, also recording four interceptions, two of which went for over 50 yards. Ira Cooper led the Cornhuskers with 12 tackles, including four solo and eight assists, also picking off a pass. Titus Adams had a team high three tackles for a loss, and also had a sack. Adam Carriker and Lorn McPherson each had two tackles for a loss and two sacks.

-NU Jordan Adams backup QB out
Richie Incognito C Suspension Out indefinitely

-NU returns 6 off. and 6 def. starters. The off. line is learning a new west coast offense. The def. line and linebackers are not as experienced as last years group. MLB Ruud had 149 tackles last year. The secondary is said to be one of the best in the country.

-NU is 8-3 ATS as a home favorite since 2002.

-SM finished last year with 6 striaght wins.
9-3 ATS in road openers since 92 and 2-7 ATS the last 3 yrs. as an away dog.

-SM QB Almond started against NU last year and hit just 4 of 24 passes in a loss at home 38-14 and looking for revenge.

-SM returns 9 off. and 4 def. starters. They have a good core of experienced RB's and receivers. Top 3 receivers caught over 100 passes for 1700 yds. last year. This is supposed to be SM's best offensive line in years. The defense returns 6 of the top 8 and add some outstanding Juco players. They also return 5 of the top 6 Linebackers with 1st team CUSA player SLB Boley who had 151 tackles last year. He also had 22.5 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, five pass breakups, nine quarterback hurries, three fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. SM's field goal kicker was 14-17 last year and 11-12 inside the 40.

-For NU to be successful they must be able to pass against SM's secondary which is said to be weak. All 4 starters depart as well as a backup and only 3 players return with starting experience. Redshirt junior Trevis Coley will anchor the secondary. Coley finished with 80 total tackles last season, including 61 solos, and 19 assists. He had one tackle for a loss and one sack, broke up three passes, forced and recovered a fumble, while tying for the team high in interceptions with three.

-SM maybe looking ahead to a Thursday night game with California at home. SM is 1-10 ATS versus non-conf. opp.

After analyzing the Mich/NDame matchup closer, the Michigan play is now a no play as I have taken NDame at +13 and +13.5. I will count this as a no play regardless of even if it would happen to land on 13.

My only bets at this time are NEBRASKA, UTAH, AND USC. I really like all 3 of these and it is looking doubtful that I will have more than 1 or 2 more games added to this unless there are some line changes in my favor.

Did a little bit of digging and found another solid play in my opinion. I feel that Ohio is in an excellent spot this weekend to cover the spread. They will be playing their 2nd game against a team who has yet to take the field. And the Pitt team who does take the field won't be a complete one. In addition to major losses to graduation they are injury riddled. A couple of starters on the O-Line won't be playing or will not be at 100%. Their top returning WR will not play. Add in that they are playing Nebraska the next game and you have a very good reason to expect Ohio to cover this game and possibly keep it very close or win.

Adding:

OHIO +18 (Skybook)

2-2 on the day with 2 easy winners, a bad loser and a loser that should have been a winner. I was counting that Ohio game to my bankroll. Turnovers and kicking game mistakes just killed my Nebraska and Ohio plays. I really misjudged Dailey progression in the WCO and overestimated the difference between these teams playing an opening game and Nebraska on it's 2nd game.

Oh well... on to the pros and on to next weekend in college.

YTD record slides to 12-6.

Omaha,

Is it fair to say my assupmtion that Huskers not quite ready to lay DD's against quality opponents. That's what I based my play on, that and seeing LW game where there were possible int's that were dropped. I'm on the road and was at the ASU/NW game so I have only seen highlights. Thinking about next week and they go to PITT who returns 8 defensive players.

Is there another QB on the roster other than Dailey that they may be able to work into the Offense? I think they avoid most of the B12 south heavyweights though so that's at least a plus as it will give them add'l time to get better. I'm in B12 south country (Dallas)
