Yes more or less. I theoretically agree with you.

The reason I can't wholeheartedly agree is because I feel if we were to pull out altogether then we would look bad as if we were dumping them on their asses to fend for themselves - and not following through cleaning up the mess that "we made".

Also since we now know that AQ is there - I would worry that they along with others would make a serious bid to take over parts of the country

at any rate - I am glad they are over there fighting rather than here

Jay: in order for it to be a positive that terrorists are causing mayhem in Iraq rather than in the US, you must first presume that they, specifically, existed in the first place. Your argument holds that the Iraq situation is diverting their attention from the US, yes? What if, and bear with me here, the originators of 9/11 are still sitting back planning new attacks on the US while the new recruits are the ones in Iraq? Unlike you, I presume that terrorists multiplied with the Iraq invasion, and have moved into Iraq to push the US out.

(I also would like to point out to you that while they may not be on your turf (for now) they are directing their attacks at Americans nonetheless. Your life may still be secured, but your wallet is going to take a huge hit.)

Now walk me thru it, please. Pretend I'm like the slowest kid in the class.

We got these guys, we'll call em Al Queda. These guys entire life focus is on how to **** with the USA. It's because of a supposed upbringing that taught them from the cradle, it's because of religious doctrines, it's because of whatever, just agree that this is their life focus.

So they watch the bigg, badd U.S. roll into a sovereign nation - Iraq - bomb the shit out of it, depose the President and pretty much try and take over the whole country.

Are you telling me that after watching this, these guys, AQ, all have a meeting and say, "You know, this is a very strong message the US is sending. We better surrender. We better abandon our entire life's mission and that of our fathers. We're no longer going to bomb public places. From now on, we're going the diplomatic route (setting aside for a moment that the U.S. under GW Bush would never contemplate for a second such diplomacy) and we're going legit.

In short, we quit our battle. The U.S. wins."

Is that really pretty much what you forsee here, barring a significant change in U.S. foreign policy strategies?
