The same way anything else can be overrated?
Because if someone watches a movie and likes it, you really can't say to him "no you didn't". But if someone says the Atlanta Falcons are the best team in NFL history, there's plenty of arguments available to say "no they aren't". Remember, the question was "What is your favorite Christmas movie?", not "What was the greatest Christmas movie ever made?"

I think the earlier statement in the thread about a movie being over-rated wasn't made in reference to this thread (i.e. "What is your favorite Christmas movie").

Your argument is that "liking a movie" is subjective and something like "best team in NFL history" is objective. I think you have a point, but with that line
of thinking, you could never say that something that is up to personal taste is over-rated, which I don't think is true...

Good point. I was looking at it strictly from the point of view of the movie-goer and that subjective feelings cannot over or under-rate.

Best Christmas Movie?

For me, can't go through a Christmas without watching "Christmas Vacation."

Classic movie for everyone.

I enjoy It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street, and White Christmas, but my favorite is A Christmas Carol. The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future can be seen in our own lives. When we were kids and got maybe a bike, a football, or a jigsaw puzzle, as adults as we give to our friends and neighbors, and in the future when we may give to our own children or grand children. Sometimes we like Scooge focus on the money aspect of Christmas, but once we see how our actions make others happy, we realize the amount of money invested is a small price to pay for the joy it brings to our loved ones.
