unless you really dont trust your running back to hang onto the ball i disagree with not getting as close as possible for your kicker.
they should of ran 2 plays and attempted FG on 3rd down with about 15 seconds left
in theory, i agree. but in practice, that's really splitting hairs here. plus, the possibility of a fumble outweighs the chance of a missed 30 yard FG.
the fact is, Payton knew exactly what he was doing and they executed perfectly, whereas Kelly was completely lost. Eagles could've had the ball down possibly only 5 with over 1:30 to go. Kelly looked really stupid.
real chess match i thought. anything 20 yard and further i think you can justify it either way. philly burned there last timeout before 2nd and 6 with 1 minute 54 left and then Khiry ( on a great run) picked up 5.8 yards. if you are really gonna strategize you tell your guys if you can get him in the backfield then take him down but if he gets a head of steam going then just let him go. he is a rookie and maybe Payton didn't realize to tell his guys yet to go down inbounds at the 4 yard line. it's all hindsight but i dont think Kelly should get buried with criticism on it.
