Saints played that last drive absolutely textbook. Got the ball with 5:17 left and down 1. That was impressive.

FYI for those asking, It is legal to push the runner forward, The old "Bush push" is now legal in both the NFL and college.

unless you really dont trust your running back to hang onto the ball i disagree with not getting as close as possible for your kicker.

they should of ran 2 plays and attempted FG on 3rd down with about 15 seconds left

in theory, i agree. but in practice, that's really splitting hairs here. plus, the possibility of a fumble outweighs the chance of a missed 30 yard FG.

the fact is, Payton knew exactly what he was doing and they executed perfectly, whereas Kelly was completely lost. Eagles could've had the ball down possibly only 5 with over 1:30 to go. Kelly looked really stupid.

Rob Ryan has done a heck of a job with this D. Brees didn't play great at all. They don't win this a couple years ago.

Great drive and hats off to peyton for sticking with the run game on that last drive. Ingram should be behind Khiry on depth chart. Ingram tried bouncing it outside every single play and khiry just looked better.

of course, if they got stuffed with those run plays everyone would be calling him David Shaw 2.0

does anyone think that letting that clock go to 3 seconds a good idea before kicking? only rational thought i can think is that you totally put all the focus for the kicker/holder on the play and don't let it get it in his head that he can spike it if he doesn't like the snap

real chess match i thought. anything 20 yard and further i think you can justify it either way. philly burned there last timeout before 2nd and 6 with 1 minute 54 left and then Khiry ( on a great run) picked up 5.8 yards. if you are really gonna strategize you tell your guys if you can get him in the backfield then take him down but if he gets a head of steam going then just let him go. he is a rookie and maybe Payton didn't realize to tell his guys yet to go down inbounds at the 4 yard line. it's all hindsight but i dont think Kelly should get buried with criticism on it.

yeah as i said earlier, the 2nd down play was where Philly should've let them score. i agree that it would've been unlikely for Khiry to go down at the 1, that's what makes Kelly's decision so bad here. have we seen worse by other coaches? sure. but that shouldn't exclude Kelly here from situational time management criticism. Philly could've had the ball with around 1:45 to go and the Saints weren't covering kicks very well either.

highly unlikely that Payton wouldn't realize to let his guy go down at the 1 ? i'd give payton at least a 50 percent chance of being aware of that. they clearly had no intentions of doing anything but a field goal. Even tom coughlin realized to tell Bradshaw to go down at the 1 in superbowl but he was too stupid to do it and rolled in.

it's really unfortunate for Kelly if he catches the blame for that decision/ no decision. IF chip lets them try to score and Payton was smart enough to tell khiry or ingram to go down inbounds at 3 yard line (or even brees could of told them for that matter) then Chip would get shit for not letting his players try to compete on the 2nd and 6.

I think the latter looks much worse on a coach.

Eagles were suppose to be the team controlling the rush game and even with a +2 gift from brees in the turnover battle they couldn't win the ground game. even if the ground game was even they probably win that game b/c Brees looked pretty bad for most of the game and was not very accurate at times. Especially on the deep balls.
