How about this. There is a big old black guy that hangs drinking a cup of coffee on a coffee bar in Brockton, MA at the Cumberland Farms where I get gas every day. He's definitely seen his better days. But he's a big guy with huge hands. A few weeks ago I was joking that saw a picture of Gronk with his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. Gronk's hand with glove on almost went from one side of his chest to the other. I told the guy that his hand was almost as big as Gronks.

I always say Hi, fist bump, and talk a little sports with the guy. Just this past week he told me that he used to be a boxer. His name was Tiger Moore and that he used to be Marvin Hagler's sparring mate. Just for a lark I looked him up on Google. Sure enough there's the guy (much younger and much fitter).

Brockton is a now run down city south of Boston. But it was a proud, tough, factory city once. That's when Marvin Hagler became the champ. Marvin Hagler is a mega god in Brockton. I will see mini shrines to Marvelous Marvin when I go down there on Monday. A city will be in mourning.

Cool story. RIP
It's pretty wild that Rocky Marciano was from there too.

I rewatched the Leonard/Hagler fight recently, it really wasn't that bad of a decision but it was more about how Leonard won. He was strategic with flurries at the end of some rounds and stole them and I think that left a lot of people unsatisified. Two judges had it 115-113, split each way and 1 of them later said he fucked up and should've had 2 more rounds for Hagler. 115-113 Hagler was probably the right score, then the idiot 3rd judge had it 118-110 Leonard.

Also, think Leonard got in Hagler's head a bit and the moment got to him some. Didn't want to just beat him by bullying him and being the bigger man but wanted to show he was every bit the tactician that Leonard was. He should've got a close decision but a lot of that loss was on him for not fighting to his strengths better.

RIP tho, legend

This guy has some good videos, broke the fight down, said he thought Hagler won but not much of a robbery

That's kinda the point. Leanard never hit or hurt Hagler, he just landed a bunch of light jabs at the end of each round. It's like he was playing the judges, fighting to win on perception and thus the scorecard

yeah, kinda chickenshit way to win but not really the worst decision. Hagler certainly shares in blame for his own tactics.

Just saying it wasn't really a massive robbery, closer than people remember.

His corner was yelling "30 seconds!" during a lot of those rds so it was actually a part of their gameplan to do that.

Hagler was probably thinking his sparring partner hit him harder

AS I recall Hagler, earlier in his career, was having trouble getting fights that would lead to a title shot
until Teddy Kennedy's office started snooping around the boxing commission, asking pointed questions
regarding this "problem".

Probably one of the VERY few things I'd ever give Kennedy credit for, but his intervention put an end to
what WOULD have been a real injustice. The rest is indeed history.

I STILL remember him savagely KO'ing Caveman Lee, a journeyman ex-con who was a friend of Tommy
Hearns in 1982 or '83. Lee had made the SERIOUS mistake of talking mad shit about how he was gonna
punk Marvin....interviewed after the fight, Hagler simply said: "I decided that I wanted him down at my
feet. So that's where I put him."

Well, OKAY then, Marvin!....^!:

And I recall Hagler DID, indeed, make at least one action film after his fight career ended.
