Would u have close to 1 billion in handle a year??? Thats very close to what Pinny does, Use Pinny, Oly, Cris as a starting Point for sure, but copy move for move is insane, thats why many newer books go out of Bizness, they follow the Don Best Screen move for move without looking at thier own customers, everybook is different with different customers, -6.5 is Good for Cris when You might be better off using -7.

I figured that's what you meant. I assumed you were just giving Shrink a hard time Hitman. ;)

You are right about the opinionated lines. I think at some point every book in the world has moved on air for a game.

Ok Chips. Whatever you say. I just gave my opinion if I were running a book. Whatever you say is right and I don't know anything.

Thanks Shrink and Chips for making me feel like an idiot

Hitman,

Surely you jest?

In no way did I intend for you to feel like an idiot, and if I offended you, then I apologize...

The reason I started this thread was to generate some good discussion about a topic I am very interested in...

Hitman you are not an idiot this is a hypothetical argument or actually a better word is discussion. All points of view have some merit and some flaw.

A lot of guys must be drunk in this thread

Let me give you clowns a simple example of bookmaking 101

1. Never ever move on air
2. You move on action only
3. When Don Best goes Black does anyone realize playing against the move (1 point or more) your a liftetime winner??
4. Steam plays are the most overrated thing in the world, they mean zippo!!! If they won no one would work.
5. You cannot lose booking like this

Ok go back to your non sense on how to book scared and lose

I would move on action only because if I were a bookmaker I'd actually book for (GASP) equal action!

Sharps?? What the hell is one anyway??

The only definition maybe of a sharp is a guy that makes a few bucks by years end and most of the time beats your books closing lines.

Does it make you sharp when you win the most of your bets by turnovers?? The majority of bets are decided by these period.

The only dangerous bettors are guys that get bets in and beat your closing line on a regular basis.

I think you have to move on air unless you have the huge finances of the top books. If not you are a sitting duck for the wise guys & beards. Until you are at the same financial level of a Cris, Oly, or Pinnacle you are only looking for losses by holding firm on openers awaiting action because eventually you will get it and get it good. What if 10 beards pile in and pound one side with way more action than you will see the whole night from your recreational clients? You better have a solid call off procedure in place.

IF YOU WERE A BOOKMAKER, WOULD YOU MOVE "ON AIR?"

Seriously guys, if you ran a sports book, would you change your line before taking a bet because DINO and VINO next door "moved" a full point?

I raise this question because barring an injury or pertinent new information, SOME bookies will adjust their lines BEFORE actually taking a bet because they see EVERYONE ELSE moving their lines!!!

On the other hand, I know some offshore establishments that won't adjust their lines UNTIL AFTER a bet is placed into them...

So the question I am asking all of you to answer is simple...

What would YOU do if you OWNED an OFFSHORE SPORTS BOOK?

Move ON AIR or ON THE BET? :Guitarman :ohno: :messed:

Thanks in advance,

THE SHRINK

Yes for sure. If you think about it the original number you posted was on air anyway, so how is this adjustment any differentdifferentdifferent???

So far, the answers that some of you gave are EXACTLY what the most successful gambling syndicates are HOPING that you would do...

For a few shekels, they FAKE you out, then BLAST away with a MAXIMUM bet in your store getting a more favorable number for them to boot...:drink:

very interesting. Can you point out those sitautions (After the fact of course) the next 5 times this happens. Id like to review the line moves and the buy back prices of those.

will it happen tonight for example?

Most definitely. I would have an opinion on games and make sure to have the best line by 1 pt. on the side I want action on. This means that if others move, I have to as well. And as soon as I get the action I want I turn it into plain vanilla again and try to balance the rest.

Not move on air

Some of the answers just knock me off the chair. There are some very knowledgeable people on this forum but i guess the gambling degenerate must move some of them ,.Just because a number moves, does not mean the Holy Grail is that side. Being on the other side of the table for 30 years, it astounds me to see how some clone B/M shops stay in business. They must have awfully deep pockets.I have never moved on air and never will , however it probably would have saved a, lot this year if i had. I will move for injuries, key players out at the last minute, but never because Billy or anyone else likes that side. This has not been a good year, a lot like 1989 when the group tore everybody up. This has been a year of the sucker, however i dont know that anyone can be classified as a sucker anymore. Not with all the advantages that everyone has now. More later, back to work Buddym

Movein on AIR bad idea...Now if you Know you made that bet that moved other shops and respect it, then okay, just dont move the full amount that they did. Stop and take a bet ot two at the leser number, then move if needed....Geee do you guys actually think that ALL that steam wins? Surely not...Besides many times movers of the BW have no clue if "that" is the right side to begin with.....ya know...
