Yes, you are real johnny-on-the-spot there Fish, lol.
I watched a lot of great hockey growing up in the late 60's, 70's early-mid 80's. Today's game pales in comparison. What is considered "great" now would be considered mediocre back then. Great hockey is no longer played, and great hockey players no longer exist.
You may wail and gnash your teeth at that statement, but I grew up watching Bobby Orr, Brad Park, Phil Esposito, Guy Lafluer, Larry Robinson, Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Yvan Cornoyer, Bernie Parent, Tony and Phil Esposito, Gump Worsley with no mask, Bryan Trottier, Wayne Gretzky, Butch Goring, Mike Bossy, Neal Broten, Ron Hextall, Glenn Anderson, Mark Messier (ok he's still around) and that is a SHORT list, there are a lot I've left out. I could name practically the entire late 70's Canadiens team to that list, not to mention the early 70's Bruins. Same for the 80's Oilers and Islanders. And I only named ONE guy from the team I grew up worshipping, the North Stars who fled for "greener" pastures.
Today's hockey sucks, take it from a guy who was attending regular season and playoff games all the time back in the day. I wouldn't go near an NHL game now. I watched the Wild go on their run last year, there were some entertaining games, some decent play, but it ain't the same my friend, not even close.
