Preview: Washington At Boston by covers

Washington / Boston -5 Over /Under 211

The Boston Celtics squandered a five-point lead in the final minute of Game 6 and were victimized by some fuzzy clock management in the final seconds of a 92-91 loss, but at least they can look forward to Game 7 at home. The top-seeded Celtics will try to continue the trend of the home team winning every game in the series and dispatch the Washington Wizards on Monday in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Wizards All-Star point guard John Wall buried a 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds left in Game 6 to give his team a one-point lead and Kelly Oubre Jr. used Washington's foul to give with 2.7 seconds remaining, according to the NBA's Last Two Minute report, but Boston only got 1.7 seconds left on its final chance as Isaiah Thomas heaved up a 3-point attempt that missed the mark. The Wizards' win not only kept them alive but kept the home team undefeated in the 10 games the teams have played against each other going back to the regular season. "To have Game 7 back in Boston in the Garden," Thomas told reporters after the loss. "If you had said that back in October, that there's be a Game 7 in the second round, a lot of people probably wouldn't even believe that. So we're excited. I mean, it hurts right now because we just lost. We have nothing to hold our heads down about, we're going to take a few days to figure out our adjustments and win Game 7." Washington is attempting to return to the conference finals for the first time since the 1978-79 season while the Celtics are looking to return for the first time since 2011-12.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS: Wall is averaging 26.3 points and 10.2 assists in the series and combines with Bradley Beal to form a backcourt that is not afraid to take the big shots. "Now those guys are not babies anymore. They’re closers," Backup center Ian Mahinmi told the Washington Post. "They're proven closers. ... All those shots were like no hesitation. You could tell from the bench, you could tell from being on the floor, those guys are now calm when it comes down to taking the last shots and game-winning shots." Beal scored a series-best 33 points in Friday's win but is still trying to find his shot from long range while shooting 26.3 percent from beyond the arc in the series.

ABOUT THE CELTICS: Thomas is averaging 19.3 points on 39 percent shooting in four games since exploding for 53 points in Game 2 but is looking forward to the opportunity to prove himself on the Game 7 stage. "That's where all the great players make their name," Thomas told reporters of Game 7. "You gotta give it everything you've got. I guess that's where legends are born. I'm excited." Thomas is getting plenty of help the last two games from shooting guard Avery Bradley, who followed up a playoff career-high 29 points in Game 5 with 27 in Game 6 and is 22-of-37 from the floor in that span.

Wednesday’s NBA Eastern Conference Finals Betting Preview: Cavaliers at Celtics by covers

Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics (+4, 219.5)

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been scorching hot in the playoffs with eight straight victories and aim to keep the streak alive when they visit the Boston Celtics in Wednesday's opener of the Eastern Conference finals. Cleveland had few issues sweeping both the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors while the Celtics had to fight through a tough seven-game series against the Washington Wizards that ended on Monday night.

The second-seeded Cavaliers haven't played since May 7 and will continue to ride the red-hot duo of forward LeBron James (34.4 average) and point guard Kyrie Irving (23.8) as they look to shake off the rust. "I know our team is anxious to play," Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue told reporters. "(Kyle) Korver and LeBron, those guys are talking about it, so our guys are just anxious to play and ready to go out there." Top-seeded Boston posted a 115-105 victory over Washington to reach the conference finals for the first time since 2012 and will be huge underdogs against the Cavaliers. "We gotta get ready for the defending champs, we know that," standout point guard Isaiah Thomas said after Monday's game. "The good thing about it is we've got homecourt advantage, so we're going to be ready on Wednesday to try to take care of home court. We know it's going to be tough but at this point, anything can happen, we really believe that."

LINE HISTORY: The Cavaliers opened as three-point road favorites for Game 1 and the public didn't think that was enough points, forcing the books to bump the number up to 4. The total hit the board at 219.5 and has been steady since its release Monday night.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (59-31 SU, 41-45-4 ATS, 53-36-1 O/U): Coach Tyronn Lue has vowed to get power forward Kevin Love more involved in this series after he averaged just 13.8 points and 9.1 rebounds during the first two rounds. Love averaged 23.7 points and 13 rebounds in three games against the Celtics this season and Lue feels the matchups will be more in Love's favor in this round, but Love maintains he's not overly concerned. "I told him, 'We're 8-0. I don't mind it,'" Love recently told reporters. "If I get five or six shots, if I get 15 shots, it don't matter to me, as long as we win. I've been in this position before; we're having success, so I'm happy. Feel good."

ABOUT THE CELTICS (61-34 SU, 49-44-2 ATS, 47-44-4 O/U): Thomas has carried Boston through most of the playoffs in an inspiring manner considering the tragic death of his sister to go along with numerous minor bumps and bruises. Despite the hardships, Thomas is averaging 25.4 points in the postseason - he had 29 points, 12 assists and just two turnovers in the Game 7 win over the Wizards - and has four 30-point outings. "He's dealing with more stuff, physically, and has obviously gone through what he went through at the start of the playoffs," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said after the win over Washington. "It's pretty remarkable."
