I have full blooded Vizsla. She got very sick, throwing up everything she eight. Took her to two different vets to find out she has a generic disease called mega esophagus. Her esophagus is three times the normal size and she will not be able to swallow food ever again. We will have to feed her sitting up and 3-4 times a day. The vet bills were 1200.00, would you spend the money on a dog. I felt like I had to, she's only 3 years old.

I dont think it's as much about the money as it is the quality of life for the dog. I think it would be best to put a dog down in that situation. A dog lives to eat for the most part...that would be a rough life for the dog...and you.

I would agree, The quality of life will not be there for the dog or your family. A very hard thing to do, but my guess is a wise thing to do!

i can relate.my wife and i had a toy fox terrier....sweetest little guy in the world......he had cataracts surgery was 2500...he went blind a year later...he was diabetic we gave him insulin shots twice a day.........he got fluids every morning we gave him thru an IV............he would occasionally have to to the vet to be in the oxygen tube for a few days to clear out his lungs............in 5 years we spent about 40k on him counting monthly meds...........i would spend 10 times that if he were still here(his lungs gave out ).........as painful as losing a child(almost)

Maybe theres some kind of a liquid diet or put dog food mixed with water in a blender up on the wall similar to a big hamster water bottle feeder

Tried to pull the plug on my wife. Doctors didn't want to do it, but I insisted. I kept pleading to put her out of her misery. She had a hangnail.

You and your wife are first class people, what a lucky dog.

Great suggeston, everything I have been reading says the same, put the food in a blender. The water bottle feeder is something I haven't thought of, but I'm going to give it a try.

Feed her oatmeal over the weekend and she gained a pound and half, full of life again. The wife has a big smile on her face, and you probably know what that means. Thanks for the suggestions and comments.
