In Switzerland almost everyone from 20-34 is required to have an automatic firearm, which is more deadly than anything you can legally own in America, in their homes, yet their gun homicide rate is lower than ours.

In Israel, all able bodied people are required to give 2 years of military service and they can take those military grade weapons home with them at the end of the night, yet their gun homicide rate is lower than ours.

The problem in America isn't guns, it's culture.

Two writers at Slate came out against this. Even Gawker came out against this, and Kevin Drum at Mother Jones came out against this.

When the FBI Director, the NRA, ACLU, Gawker, Slate, and Mother Jones all agree on something, maybe you should ask yourself if it really is a good idea you're supporting.

So what you're saying is.....Gawker, Slate and Mother Jones are always hacks......until they agree with your stance.....then we should listen to their opinion. Uh, ok

do you think before you type or do you just post stupidity as soon as a thought pops into that whacky head of yours?

given, culture is 'the problem' what measures should to be taken to protect the general public, if any. Some folks claim population control is needed , so some chap snapping and killing 40+ or so kinda helps .....

economic growth

improved education

changing our incentives, stop rewarding teenage pregnancies and start rewarding high school diplomas with a bonus for never getting pregnant (and we'd save billions)

changing our welfare system, rewarding marriage as opposed to punishing it (financially), adopt policies that make the transition from welfare to work less painful.

the destruction of the inner city family caused by the Great Society as been catastrophic, a modern version of the black plague

how so, a tax credit? if you don't get pregnant by say age 18?, we will pay you? or if you get a diploma we will pay you?

1) Not a tax credit, I hate hiding everything in the tax code. A program that rewards people for graduating and for not getting pregnant as opposed to rewarding them for having babies as a teenager, and stop rewarding teenage pregnancies. Getting people out of the welfare family business has to save society unknown billions while improving education

2) The present welfare system discourages marriage, it's a bad choice financially. The mother has children, the mother and her children go on the government dole for cash, food, housing and healthcare. The father works. If they get married, because the father is working, the mother would lose much of if not all of her benefits. So they practice welfare fraud to increase family income, and they teach their children to live this way. So we change our policies to reward people for doing things the right way as opposed to encouraging them to remain single parents with little commitment to each other.

Democrats all worried about "constitutional abuses" and Due Process at GITMO.

"We will not ship away prisoners in the dead of night to be tortured in far-off countries or detain without trial or charge prisoners who can and should be brought to justice for their crimes or maintain a network of secret prisons to jail people beyond the reach of the law. We will respect the time-honored principle of habeas corpus, the seven-century-old right of individuals to challenge the terms of their own detention that was recently reaffirmed by our Supreme Court," the old platform said.

:):)

"The real issue here is, do we really believe in due process," Massachusetts Democrat Bill Delahunt replied. He said due process is fundamental to any democracy, and characterized it as "nothing more than a search for the truth."

:):)
Now? Due Process is this silly, abstract technicality.

thanks. I see gross abuses of the system. Practice in Ontario. It's often disturbing, i'd like to think its not the norm

given what u wrote, what exactly r u advocating? to dramatically chnage welfare policy? how so? to NOT help those who get pregnant early? or to do so but for only a limited period..then NO aid?

what % of those on food stamps use the program cause there's a genuine lack of jobs? not cause they want to be on welfare. How does being on welfare effect their spirit?.......sadly, quite a few people with University degrees applying for receptionist jobs.

I would like a significant overhaul of the welfare system, I think the incentives for not getting pregnant and getting a degree should far outweigh the current incentive for getting pregnant. That alone will modify such behavior.

Of course, a growing economy that encourages a higher Labor Participation Rate has to be part of the solution. Our nearly a decade of economic malaise is a very big part of the problem.

I do believe in a safety net, but I don't believe social programs can be a career choice or treated like a family business. We have to curtail them.

These are my thoughts, I never heard a politician make my case. I don't have a study to cite nor the data or the projections to answer specifics, but I know the present system is broken and must be altered.

In general, i believe ,people don't want to feel like 'losers'. They want to improve, make a living. If we ask our young to pay $100,000 for a post-secondary education then battle for $35,000 jobs ?....to tell our young, 'go get an education'- they do so, graduate and can't get a job?...how would WE feel?

we have a problem in N America. We really do. We need some our best IN GOVT, not just the private sector

Why do people insist on making idiotic comparisons. People are still gonna do drugs and shoot people. So that means do nothing to try to minimize it?

Odd people.

the problem has gotten worse! More in jail incarcerated, more hooked and od'ing, more violence, more lives destroyed..

you really think that your local criminal isn't going to fill in for your federally regulated ffl license gun dealer if guns are banned? Yes the current system isn't perfect but it could get MUCH worse

the problem is that some people have been brought up in such a manner that they wouldn't know normal if it clubbed them.over the damn head...up is down..left is right..right is wrong..some simply don't know what normal is so saying everyone doesn't want to be a loser or wants to improve blah blah is false. Some are perfectly content wallowing in their own shit simply cuz that's all they know
