One your comment of all of the guns that weren't used. I guess we could also say..... Look at all of the nuclear weapons we have that were not used today. But the two we did used only killed a couple million people. Maybe we should all have one of those too.

What part of "constitutional right" do you not understand.

there is nothing in the constitution about cars, knives, bricks or nuclear weapons.

I find it quit astonishing how willing some of you are so willing to give up your rights. it's like some of you don't even realize what this country has lost so you can be afforded those rights. Please stop saying "it's just a document" or "its outdated", just makes you look silly to rational people.

Every younger generation is being more and more dummied down. History classes in school are now about the first gulf war, not about a founding country and rights

The rules for guns are outdated. They were written in a different time. Guns have gotten out of control in the United states. There is absolutely no reason some American citizen needs a gun that can rattle off 100 rounds in seconds. Make them illegal and the penalty for possession of one extremely severe.

oh wait hunters need them! Get a new hobby if it takes 100 rounds to kill something.

the number of murders in the usa by guns is out of hand. The best way to reduce that is reduce the number of guns. The people are someone's son, daughter, mother or father.

i feel bad that kids need to an elementary school that have metal detectors to try to avoid someone with a gun coming to their school. What kind of country do we want?

lastly how can such a high percent of Americans want change yet our elected officials can't pass anything.

The constitution makes absolutely no reference to hunting, but it does make a reference to preserving freedom. Your argument is the typical left wing strawman and red herring bullshit. Nothing about substance.

And if you believe the constitution is outdated, there's a process for changing it, it's called a constitutional amendment.

Since most arguments are constitutional, change the constitution if you can. But you don't get to decide what applies and when. I prefer to follow the law of the land.

I personally think the leadership and family values needs to reverse in the cities with the high gun fatalities. Its a pretty simple solution. Changing gun laws will have zero effect on the situation. What are the 5 top gun crime cities in the US? Why not try to attack a lifestyle change in those places? Probably because its hard and it will take people getting off their ass to do something.

I’m actually shocked it took this long for someone to introduce the automatic weapons canard.

Anyway:

#1 Americans do not purchase any rifles that fire “100 rounds in seconds” nor do they hunt with them

#2 The gun violence/gun crime incidence rates have declined over the last 20+ years (We’ve had a massive decline in gun violence in the United States) while the number of firearms in circulation has gone up 10,000% Your assertion that the “best way to reduce” gun violence is via gun laws has no foundation in fact.

#3 Thankfully, the American framers had little regard for the idea that popular = right. And, those polls on gun control are meaningless as they ask very basic questions such as “do you favor background checks for gun purchases” which is already the law.

Finally, the US constitution was ratified on June 21, 1788. The date makes a lot of these comments depressing.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a day when if there was a fight at school all that happened was some kid would go home with a black eye. now kids get killed everyday.

Gun owners you can't possibly think that is alright? What if it was your son or daughter?

the problem is complex. There are many issues, mentally ill people, drugs, gangs and religious fanatics to name a few. I get it is the person that uses the gun but Weapons themselves are also part of the problem. It is also something we can make changes to.

how can there be more gun stores than McDonald's in the United states?

the ar-15 was used in Orlando, San bernidito, Newton, and aurora..... Seems to be s bit of a problem.

there is a high probability that doing some sort of mass murder takes a mentally ill person.....yet in the United States he can go buy a gun. I guess some people think this is ok.

why do the rights of one person trump the rights of 50 people?

Something needs to to change in the United states because this is not the country I want my kids and grandkids to grow up in. This is not the country we have fought wars to be. If part of that change to be a better country means changing the gun ownership laws then so be it. End of story.

Now I understand why you have such difficulty making substantive posts.

The issue with the bold is that there is no method to find out why you are on the list and then remove yourself from the list. You act as though it's crazy for me to suggest the list should improve. Why? Why shouldn't we strive for better?

By the way, the Senate Republicans aren't defending due process. I am. They're defending the gun lobby and gun owners that live in constant fear that any "infringement" on gun ownership will one day end up with them losing their guns. I am neither a gun owner nor a part of the gun lobby.
So you are good with shipping suspected terrorists to a base in Cuba, but not taking away their rights to buy a gun?

The people are GITMO are enemy combatants, not "suspected terrorists"

Thankfully, it is already illegal to sell firearms to mentally ill people in America.

18 U.S. Code § 922

(d) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person—

(4)
has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution;

(g) It shall be unlawful for any person—
(4) who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution;

to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, any firearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.

Great comparison. You're entitled to your opinion but this type of logic doesn't even deserve a serious response.

I'm looking to have a civil discussion here. Is everyone on the no fly list a terrorist?

Once again, you literally have no idea what you're talking about, yet can not stop yourself from commenting.

I could post example after example of people finding out at the airport they are no the no-fly list, yet having no connection to terrorism, but what would be the point?

You will respond with a dumb bon-mot or by repeating the same dumb talking point.

The reason why the US is no where close to be top on the list or not really in the big numbers is our interstructure is different

before greenbacks posted the list I could have told you Caracas was on or close to the top. I spent time there back in the mid 90's
and there are a few guys here that were there as well. We were on margarita island and if you wanted nightlife, you went to Caracas ...
But you were Always told to watch your back when there, and in some cases you had a bodyguard ... and Never Flash your Jewelry around.

There were plenty of muggings, Killings for just little things.

Anyway, I will go with what a few have said, amend the constitution. Because it's Outdated ..

and as I said before, we need to FIX the Lists out there... this is 2016 and Live in a Computer world and should be able to do this.
Get off your Lazy asses and FIX IT !

So you are good with locking people up without due process because your government says they are enemy combatants, but you're not good with people your government believes should be placed on a terrorist watch list not being able to purchase a gun because they don't get due process. Just trying to understand your logic here...

No, but that means we should just say fuck it? Put something in place to make it a more accurate list, make it easier for those wrongly put on the list to get off it.

The idea that because the list has mistakes on it we should just forget it......is not smart.
