I mean, ideally, no, they shouldn't. The issue is you're taking away someone's rights without giving them due process. Not to mention, there's the issue of not really being able to find out why you ended up on the No Fly List or any clear way to get yourself off the list if you feel as though you don't belong on it. I mean you've got examples of toddlers ending up on the No Fly List. It's one of those ideas that's better in theory than in reality.

well said

Because not everyone on the watch list is a terrorist. The people that are innocent don't even have the benefit of being notified they are on the list (or get an explanation of why they are on the list) and have no method to get off the list. That's insane.

So your trade-off is that EVERYONE on the terrorist watch list gets to buy a gun just so we don't infringe on the gun-buying rights of the (possibly) innocent person on the list?

Ya, except that's not what I'm saying at all. How about we make the assholes in Washington do their jobs? Improve the No-Fly List so that people receive notice when they go on the list, are told why they are on the list, and have a clear method to challenge being on the list.

Not every citizen would give up their due process rights or their 2nd Amendment rights; just people who our government has deemed to have done enough to be on a terrorist watch list. Why are you standing up for people on the terrorist watch list?

Please describe the standard for "done enough"?

What, exactly, gets you on the terrorist watch list? What, exactly, takes you off the list?

I don't want to hear the Bull Shit excuse .... Rep. vs. Dem crap

How ... Why can they NOT pass a Bill that says if you are on the No-Fly list or terrorist watchlist , you CAN'T buy a Gun ....
Give me reasons ?

It makes me Sick to be an American !

and I'm pro Gun ...

very Sad living in a Country like this

Here is the answer:

Using the no-fly list (or terror watch list) to stop people from buying guns is not constitutional.

Further, nobody can list an actual example of anyone on the terror watch list going out and buying a firearm and then committing a crime. Not 1 time, not ever.

Finally, the director of the FBI said that using this watch list to deny gun purchases will disrupt terrorism investigations (it will tip off those under surveillance).

Those are the reasons.

Follow the money

it will rarely fail you. Even in healthcare...:).....can you imagine?

'The World Health Organization states that depression is the leading cause of disability, affecting more than 120 million people worldwide. Antidepressants are now the most popular class of drugs in the U.S., and their use has been growing rapidly over the past two decades. From 1990 to 2000, prescriptions for SSRIs (the leading class of antidepressant drugs) rose by a staggering 1300%. In the last year alone, 30 million patients in the U.S. spent over $12 billion on antidepressants.'

------

recent studies show that these SSRI's have little advantage over placebos. AND they can INCREASE the risk of the 'depressed' committing suicide

http://talkingcure.co.uk/articles/bmj-331-moncrieffkirsch.pdf

note, Dr Moncrief's conclusions were in 2006............dagone.............

Conclusions:

The NICE review data suggest that selective serotoninreuptake inhibitors do not have a clinically meaningfuladvantage over placebo, which is consistent withother recent meta-analyses. In addition, methodologicalartefacts may account for the small effect seen. Evidencethat antidepressants are more effective in moresevere conditions is not strong, and data on long termoutcome of depression and suicide do not provideconvincing evidence of benefit. In children, thebalance of benefits to risks is now recognised asunfavourable. We suggest this may also be the case foradults, given the continuing uncertainty about thepossible risk of increased suicidality as well as otherknown adverse effects. This conclusion implies theneed for a thorough re-evaluation of currentapproaches to depression and further development ofalternatives to drug treatment. Since antidepressantshave become society’s main response to distress, expectations raised by decades of their use will alsoneed to be addressed.

.......

what if depression is a symptom and not a 'disease'?...:)

...........sorry for the tangent............

I can't speak for politicians and political speak, which nauseates me. I can tell you where I stand.

If they want to change constitutional rights, then there's a process for doing such, it's called a constitutional amendment. I would actually support some gun law legislation, but it can't simply be done by an act of Congress. I think the Constitution has been bastardized enough, and that hasn't been working out very well when it happens (I'll pick the low hanging fruit, an overly burdensome federal bureaucracy was never the intent of the framers, yet that's what we have).

We're either a nation of laws or we're not, we can't cherry pick what we choose to honor and what we choose to discard merely because that's what some faction wants.

I also dislike executive orders, another provision abused when a president refuses to follow due process. Legislation should be passed and modified in accordance with the law of the land. I'll respect any legislation passed lawfully, and mock idiots for being idiots when they do otherwise.

What's the difference if you're a felon who can't buy a gun?

A felon has gone through due process. He was able to face his accusers, cross examine witnesses, and was found guilty by his peers. Being put on a watch list doesn't require due process, they can put anyone on it for any reason at any time, and you have no recourse. Why even have courts? I mean if civil rights can be taken away with out due process why even have any civil rights?

Because the NRA owns the Republican Party. Goggle " has your US congress person received donations from the NRA" then scroll down to the web results. click on any state and you will see its 95% Republicans.

Well, I'd say the process to get put on a terror watch list needs to be really overhauled. Like, an FBI field agency has to submit a package on a suspect in say Dallas. Then, the package goes into a terror watch review board comprised of multiple members in which evidence is reviewed and the result is voted on etc.

Bottom line - This Orlando shooter was sympathetic to ISIS and suicide bombers and the FBI knew it and it was proven. If we're going to say he has rights to own a weapon which outweighs safety of our own law-abiding citizens, our priorities as a country are fucked up beyond repair.

Fair enough ... but do you believe that the system should changed ?

I'll take it a little further with Enfuego's statement ...

felons can't buy a Gun ... what about non violent felons ... should they be allowed to buy a Gun ?

The Lists ... or whatever you want to call them needs to be Fixed.

All it would take for the Orlando killer to not have been able to guy a firearm is to have the FBI indict and arrest him.

People under felony indictment can not legally purchase or possess firearms in America.

No.

There are reportedly only 1,000 "US Persons" on the no fly list. There are no examples of anyone on the list buying a gun and committing a crime.

It is beyond my comprehension why this is even being talked about.

But he had not broken a law that I know of?

I think the NRA supports a watch list don't they?

How about the right to vote? Should we take a way your right to vote because you are under suspicion? How about the right to trial? The feds suspect you are a terrorist, no need for a trial. If you don't think gun ownership should be a right, that's fine repeal it, but as it is now it is a right. Allowing the government to strip away rights without due process is a scary idea, and sets a dangerous precedence.
