I've actually gotten to read a few NFL contracts at work. What gets reported is a lot different than what they actually receive.

Not a bad contract actually.

Bortles was supposed to count for 19 mil against the cap in 2018. He had surgery on his hand and was UNABLE to be cut b/c of this.

By giving him the 3 yr extension, his cap number is only 10 mil for 2018

Jax will have a tough year next season with this stiff at QB.

I would say the under in wins may be a good bet or just go against them week to week

Team can't be considered a contender with this stiff at QB

"Can't be considered a contender"? They whooped Pitt by DD in Pittsburgh and then led the AFCCG by DD in the 4th quarter in Foxboro. I consider that contending.

Bortles had some days, and he played great vs the Patriots. He may be an inconsistent and streaky QB like an Alex Smith

Comparing him to Alex Smith is pretty generous.....imo. Maybe a poor man's Jake Cutler.

He's still young, and I'd take Bortles over Cutler any day. Jay has a long and storied career already, that verdict is in

Alex looks like a world beater for a few weeks, then he looks like a dear in the headlights again, hence my analogy

They need to draw up more designed run plays for Bortles in the offseason. Play to his strengths. Roll him out of the pocket and give him the option to take off.

Can he not throw on the run? I haven't payed close enough attention.

That is one thing Trubisky can do that excites me.

The key to Jacksonville's success last year was the leadership of GM Tom Coughlin. Coughlin
is a good football mind and understands the NFL. I look for another successful year under
his direction during 2018.

The Jags have some really good running backs and it showed last season. Bortles will not be
ask to carry the offense...just protect the ball and keep the chains moving.

Their schedule isn’t as bad as one might think for a division winner, not easy, but not devastating. They certainly won’t be sneaking up on anybody like they did last season.

Home: Patriots, Steelers, Jets, Eagles, Redskins, Colts, Texans and Titans
Away: Bills, Dolphins, Cowboys, Giants, Chiefs, Colts, Texans and Titans
