Spot on with your assessment of the committee. The dynamics within a group of strangers can do strange things. Especially when it comes to reaching decisions. I've served on two jury trials, and the group of 12 jurors were much different in each case. One had some take charge people, and one didn't have any at all. I'm kind of a in-betweener, but I had a much bigger voice the second time around when nobody would speak up. But I was perfectly happy taking on either role. My bet is just about if not all of the people on the committee are type A personalities. Which makes for an interesting dynamic. It's probably why they voted the first time on a 4th seed and wasn't happy with the outcome. And went back and voted again. This is a fact that was revealed to the media by one of the committee members. So this is a far from perfect way of doing things. There would have been much more room for error if they had a 6 or 8 team playoff. You will satisfy more of the masses when they go to that system. If they go to it.No one will ever know how much influence Alvarez and/or Osborne had in the Committee meetings. If Alvarez was a loud voice, who was going to question just how much Wisconsin was overrated or how week the Big10 was this year? Who on the Committee was speaking up for the Big12? I will bet it wasn't Osborne or Alvarez. Jeff Long? Why would he? I think Briles expressed his displeasure with the Committee makeup as diplomatically as possible when he mentioned Manning's absence.
I posted before and I'll say again that the personal dynamics in groups such as the Committee can be strange things. I've been on a few BOD's where members that you would expect to be strong influences based on their backgrounds and personalities ended up being rather passive.
A lot of $$$ was a stake for these programs and conferences. Based on my experiences, it is more likely that there were personal agendas and biases than not although it more than likely didn't change what final four teams ended up being selected this year. It might have though.
