First-round action from Wimbledon 2016 is live online and on TV on Tuesday 28 June: Serena Williams starts her title defense, Andy Murray faces a fellow Brit and Stan Wawrinka, Nick Kyrgios and more take the court – the best matches from day 2 at Wimbledon.

The legendary Sue Barker hosts live coverage of Wimbledon on BBC1 and BBC2 from 11.30am-8pm on Tuesday 28 June with more coverage available on the red button. Day two of Wimbledon 2016 sees Serena Williams begin her title defense – and her quest for an eighth Wimbledon crown – against Amra Sadikovic on Centre Court, followed by 2013 champion Andy Murray against compatriot Liam Broady, with Stan Wawrinka, Nick Kyrgios, Petra Kvitova and Agnieszka Radwanska among the other players in action.

The bottom half of the men’s draw, headlined by Murray, and the top half of the women’s draw, led by Williams, take to the courts at Wimbledon 2016 on Tuesday 28 June with play beginning on the outside courts at 11.30am BST and on the show courts at 1pm BST.

Matches to watch - Tuesday 28 June.

Nick Kyrgios vs Radek Stepanek (WC), No. 2 Court,11:30 AM

A quarterfinalist at Wimbledon 2014 when he made his name by upsetting Rafael Nadal, Australian bad boy Nick Kyrgios often makes headlines for reasons other than his tennis but the 15th seed remains one of the brightest young talents in tennis and has already won a title in Marseille and reached a Masters 1000 semifinal in Miami in 2016.

Kyrgios will have his hands full against crafty veteran Radek Stepanek, whose audacious, tricky serve-and-volley tennis gave Andy Murray fits at the French Open and who was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 2006.

Serena Williams (1) vs Amra Sadikovic (Q), Centre Court, 1 PM

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams opens play on Centre Court on Tuesday as she takes on qualifier Amra Sadikovic, who retired from the game in 2014 but returned a year later, inspired by the sight of players she beat making Grand Slam finals.

Sadikovic has been climbing the rankings but Williams will be the overwhelming favourite as the world no. 1 begins her latest quest for the 22nd Grand Slam title that would tie Steffi Graf’s Open Era record.

Stan Wawrinka (4) vs Taylor Fritz, No. 1 Court, 1 PM

Two-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka has never been past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon but he has added former winner Richard Krajicek to his coaching team in an attempt to do just that in 2016.

Wawrinka can be volatile and prey to unexpected losses but he will know he faces a potential threat against American phenom Taylor Fritz. The 18-year-old American is the youngest player to earn direct entry into the main draw and raised eyebrows when he reached the final of the Memphis Open earlier this year in just his third ATP World Tour event.

Andy Murray (2) vs Liam Broady (WC), Centre Court, 2:30 PM

Until a couple of weeks ago, Andy Murray hadn’t played another British player since Tim Henman in 2006 but he played two at Queen’s Club on his way to a record fifth title and now the 2013 Wimbledon champion faces a third as he opens his Wimbledon campaign in Liam Broady.

Broady, currently ranked world no. 235, reached the second round of Wimbledon in 2015 with a five-set win over Marinko Matosevic but Murray – now back under the tutelage of Ivan Lendl – will want an efficient victory as he tries to avoid the five-set epics which marked the early rounds of the French Open for the world no. 2.

Agnieszka Radwanska (3) vs Kateryna Kolova, No. 2 Court, 3:30 PM

Runner-up at Wimbledon in 2012 and a semifinalist last year, Agnieszka Radwanska has quietly played excellent tennis over the past 12 months, crowned by winning the WTA Finals Singapore at the end of last year. Radwanska has found herself overshadowed by first-time Grand Slam champions Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza, but the ‘ninja’ – a former Eastbourne champion – flourishes on grass and should be able to get past Kateryna Kozlova on Tuesday.

Dominic Thiem (8) vs Florian Mayer, No. 3 Court, 3 PM

Rising Austrian star Dominic Thiem, who made the semifinals of the French Open and won a grass-court title in Stuttgart a few weeks ago (beating Roger Federer in the process), could be vulnerable to Halle champion Florian Mayer, an underrated German player and former Wimbledon quarterfinalist.

Other matches not to miss:

Richard Gasquet (7) vs Aljaz Bedene, No. 3 Court, 11.30am – A semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2015, Richard Gasquet is likely to send another British player home as he takes on Aljaz Bedene

Bernard Tomic (19) vs Fernando Verdasco, No. 2 Court, 1.30pm – Bernard Tomic, a Wimbledon quarterfinalist a few years ago, is the second half of an Aussie double-bill on No. 2 Court on Tuesday as he takes on the erratic but powerful Fernando Verdasco

Juan Martin del Potro vs Stephane Robert, Court 12, 1.30pm – 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro plays his first match at Wimbledon since losing to Novak Djokovic in an epic five-set encounter in the 2013 semifinals.

Svetlana Kuznetsova (13) vs Caroline Wozniacki, Centre Court, 4.30pm – Former world no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has reached the fourth round of Wimbledon five times but has slipped down the rankings after injury and loss of form. Can she oust two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova?

Petra Kvitova (10) vs Sorana Cirstea, No. 1 Court, 4.30pm – Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has had a dire season and is out of the top eight seeds as a result. Kvitova could be at risk of an early exit against Sorana Cirstea, the hard-hitting Romanian rebuilding her career after injury.

ladies entering in form;

- C Vandeweghe --a New York city girl!! 6'1 and carries a big serve, which is always a plus on grass. She's in form- has recently reached her highest career ranking, 29th. She won at Holland a few weeks ago ( on grass). Followed that up with a SF appearance at Birmingham. ytd on grass- 8-1, last 3 yrs on grass- 27-8, 77%-- WAY WAY over her overall career winning % . Clearly her game is well suited for this surface

-Madison Keys (USA)-- another American that's in fine form. She's undefeated on grass this year, 6-0. Just won at Birmingham. Has reached her highest ranking on the WTA: 9th. Took Serena to 3 sets in the Rome final before bowing out. 18-4 last 3 yrs on grass. She has reached the round of 16 in her last two majors. Very dangerous

tennis-madison-keys_3255667.jpg

Karolina Pliskova (CZE)-- enjoying her best yr, has pierced the top 20. Won at Nottingham (on grass) and lost in the the final at Eastbourne (grass) . 10-2 ytd on grass.

Dominika Cibulkova - not a traditionally strong grass player. She's in form tho and just won Eastbourne (on grass). Has won 12 out of her last 14 matches.

Dominika-Cibulkova:-2015-Australian-Open--33-662x992.jpg

--- player's that are strugling:

A Kerber-- since winning the Aussie Open she hasn't exactly impressed. In fact she has managed to lose 4 of her last 7 matches, ugh

Jankovic- at 31 she's finally showing signs of wear. 11-14 ytd. Her loss to Rodina a player outside the top 100 a few weeks ago at Holland says it all.

A Petkovic- wtf has happened to her? she's 14-15 ytd. Not an accomplished grass court player and not in form . She will likely be a big fav vs inferior players
