Andy Murray is a strong favourite to beat Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic on Centre Court today but both the Scot himself and the stats suggest there are good reasons to think it won't be a walk in the park.
Andy Murray will face his toughest Wimbledon test so far when he goes up against Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic, the last scheduled match on Centre Court today.
The Betfair market suggests a Murray win will be pretty much a formality with the Australian Open finalist just [1.11] to progress, but Murray has warned his fans that the big-serving veteran will be no push-over:
"I've lost to Ljubicic a few times and I expect that to be a difficult match," said Murray.
"He serves well and that always makes it difficult. I need to make sure I can return well, which I did very well at Queen's, and I need to do the same again on Friday."
The stats back up the view that Murray has struggled against Ljubicic in the past and their current head-to-head record stands at 3-3. The latter's biggest weapon is his booming serve and the odds suggest that whatever happens in terms of the outcome of the match, it will be the Croatian who serves biggest.
He's currently the [1.65] favourite with Murray the [2.2] outsider on the "Most Aces" market. Murray's recent form at Queen's (where he beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final), good showing at the French Open and better pedigree on grass suggests he's a justified favourite to progress to the fourth round and play the winner of the Simone Bolelli/Richard Gasquet match.
