You confuse most skilled with best
Baseball for example you might think that if a team has 15 less wins and are a wild card but win it all they are not the best
Playoff baseball is different. They shorten their bullpen and even use a starter. They can shorten their team to the best guys. It isn't the same
They can be the best team but not the best regular season team
Playoffs are a test of will and skill
Not just skill and not just what you have shown in the regular season as teams grow throughout the year. Better record does not mean better team by the end of the year
But you are correct that looking at the teams in basketball it is easier to tell mostly because the best player on a team that plays mostly 8 guys can make the biggest difference compared to other sports
I understand what you are saying but that is not the point I’m making .
The Nationals had to overcome a 4-2 deficit in the 9th inning against the best closer in baseball to avoid losing in the first round of the playoffs .
If it wernt for overcoming that they would have been long forgotten and some other team would have been champs .
We all know the nationals were not the best team in baseball last season but they are the champs .
And yes I understand being the best team in the regular season does not translate always into being the best post season team in baseball .
But sometimes the best postseason teams in baseball don’t win either .
The vast nature and variance of baseball just cannot be over come in a 7 game series .
Baseball is the only sport where the worst team in baseball can beat the best team in baseball in any given 7 game series .
If the Chiefs played the jets 7 times the chiefs are going to beat the Jets 4 out of 7 100% of the time.
If best NBA team plays worst NBA 7 times the best team is going to win 4 out of 7 100% of the time .
If the Dodgers of this season played the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 out of 7 the Pirates would not lose that series anywhere close to 100% of the time
