After what he did in the 100, you can be damn sure he will run his heart out here. FOr a fact. He had to take heat for that. That was a big no no.

"Im here to win" he said that after the 100m saying he didnt care about the WR because it was already HIS, hopefully since he doesnt own the 200m WR that statement will change

Just depends on if he wants to showboat a little in winning the gold or break the WR at the same time. Hard to tell with this guy.

Micheal Johnson's record of 19.32 is .3 better then the next best recorded time. Pretty massive gap. Bolt's best time is 19.67, set this past summer.

Considering this track is considered very fast I do believe Bolt can challenge the WR but he will have to run at his maximum for at least 180m to give himself a chance. Unfortunately with no real competition I have some doubts about him doing so.

I wonder if Bolt knows how to catch a football.

Talk about a WR that would have blazing speed and great height

Finally a well thought out post. You said it. This WR is one of the great ones. Bolt has a shot but it is doubtful. Very VERY doubtful.

Any way this is shown live?

BTW i watched the semifinal and Bolt was neck and neck with Crawford the whole way, did not seem like he was world record breaking speed

If he has a big lead he will coast and showboat to victory he said in a interview he is there to win Gold Medals not set world records.

If they are quoting his interview right after winning the 100m I would still hit the 200m. It's his original event, he doesn't have the WR and I would bet he has been harassed about showboating in the 100m enough to make him think twice about doing it again. I think he breaks the WR.

When Michael Johnson broke the world record in 1996, he ran 19.32 which beat the existing record (19.66) by .34 seconds. There are several youtube videos of Johnson's record race. He was awesome. Even if Bolt runs all out it's not even close to a certainty that he breaks the record (duh).

The answer is "No"!.

True that Bolt was dominant in winning the 100 but he was anything but in the semi-finals of the 200. True he did ease up and had plenty left and will very likely win but his semi-final time of 20.01 even while easing was a long way from Michael Johnson's 19.32. My estimate has him running 19.6 at best all out. If I were you SS, I'd get off this bet if you can!

The 100 gets broken all the time, the 200 record hasnt been challenged since Michael Johnson set it.

SS;

The 100 meter and 200 meter races are distinctly different. In the 100, the runners are all out for less then ten seconds. Bolt 9.69 to be exact. In the 200, they have to run the turn which they cannot run as fast. Secondly, when they are going down the straight toward the finish, they normally do not have the same speed as the first part of the race, particularly the last 50 meters.

When Michael Johnson ran his 19.32 that equates to an average of each 100 meters in 9.66 which is under Bolts new world record set in the 100. Johnson was a tremendous turn runner and finisher down the stretch in the 200. Bolt in the 200, is not a great finisher, speed wise. The play here is "No". Do what ever you have to and get off this bet.

I dont think he can break it.

I guess we will find out in less than an hour.

My guess is 19.6 wins it.

He destroys the WR by running 19.10. He says he's going to run it all out and no coasting at the finish.
