Why would anyone play at a 20 cent baseball shop?

I agree with Journeyman and harington. The only reason people play at any shop dealing a 20cent line is for the supposed added value on the dogs.

But, this value is derived from the existence of shops with a 10 cent line. Think about this:

You play the favourite at a shop dealing a 10 cent line. Now you wanna scalp/middle/hedge your bet and you lay off your money at a 20 cent joint. Would you guys be able to do this if ALL shops were dealing a 20 cent line? Were would you rather play your chalk, at a 5-, 10- cent line shop or at a 20 cent line shop? Where?

That's why shops dealing 10 cent lines are the big "losers" after all. Especially on streaks as the one we have seen recently in MLB, where almost every favorite has won. The player gets a discount price for the favourite, thus saving money and the same player loses the bet on dogs to a shop which exposure is far less in a sport as MLB, in which 10 cent mean the world of difference.

If it's true there's value in 20 cent lines, then what would you guys think if EVERY shop were to deal them? Pretty?

This is my last comment on this issue. Anybody who does not grasp the concept of betting the best number on each game is beyond hope and not prepared to be a long-term winner in sports gambling.

Sports gambling is tough enough when you search out the best numbers. Anybody who does not think so will change their mind when they blow their bankroll.

5 cents, 10 cents, 30 cents. Just don't matter. Only the BEST number matters.

of course the best number matters...VVV how many guys at the rx do you think have 5-10 outs...there are plenty of recreational players that play at one book and the 20 cent shops live for these people..thats all they want to attract...come on VVV is it that hard to figure?

VVV:

You're right. Nobody is arguing with your point. All I'm saying is that the value on 20 cent line dog is not derived from the line itself, but from the possibility of finding a competitive price on the fav at a shop with 5-,10 cent lines.

Trying for something new on this topic:
A book with 20-cents has more 'margin of error' and may be a little sloppier/slower than a 10-cent book that needs to stay sharp. As a result, if the 20-cent books become lax, then you might generate some extra scalping opportunties.

Also, a book with 20-cent lines may need to offer a better bonus package than a 10-cent book. Depending upon bankroll, betting style and skill, some players might be able to overcome the 20-cents.

Also, I agree that the 20-cent books attracting the squares can be used to some advantage.

Lower the juice/spread, the better for bettors!

Sure a 20 cent book will sometimes beat the price of a 10 cent out or outs, but the odds are that MOST of the time the 10 cent or 8 or 5 will beat the 20 or 30 cent out.

As others noted a 20 cent out has a "cushion" of 5 cents each way when steam hits compared to the 10 cent outs. They can be lazier and slower to move.

But in a bigger sense those who say you shouldn't use 20 cent outs are trying to say that it is worse for all of us if they are still patronized. I'd say that if a 20 cent and 10 cent out are tied for the best line on your game, you should "reward" the 10 cent out with your business as a message.

In general, an 8 cent out like Pinnacle will beat a 20 cent out the huge majority of time unless they are slow and that may be a worse sign.

Buckeye-
Good point about not giving 20-cent places your business.
So often, it seems like the books think that (besides rep for paying) their bonus program is the main comparison players use, so they battle up to higher bonuses. Then, when their profits drop, they go have to go to 20-cents.

Unfortunately, at this rate of bonus competition, we will probably see 30-cent baseball lines in another 2 years. Yikes!
