I probably shouldn't have posted this topic, but it really pisses me off when people with power belittle a religion.
Come on D2bets... most Christians believe that God speaks to them. I'm not saying He comes down and says "Hey Chris, take the Lakers minus the points tonight", but is it hard to understand that these people believe He guides them.
In the article I referred to, Rooney mocks and makes fun of a Christian belief. I'm just saying that there is a double standard, where this would not be ignored if he mocked Jews or Muslims.

could not agree more. i have been a christian for years and know that God talks to me. does he speak in an audible voice...no, never. he speaks to me in my conscience, in his word, through other people.
and, i definately agree that there is a double standard. no one would dare make light of jewish or islamic beliefs in this way. not sure why this is...maybe because christianity is the religion of the majority and to make fun of the majority is the only thing that is not politically incorrect. i am a white, christian male so, i am quite used to this bias.
regarding the upcoming movie, i do not know mel gibson but i have seen him talk about this movie quite a bit and i sincerely believe that he made this movie because he felt compelled to do so...not for money. he went to the studios to bankroll this production and they would not touch it. so, he spent his own money. now that its clear that this movie will likely be a huge financial success, everyone is saying he did it for the money
by the way, i too think pat robertson should shut up. last fall, the guy "commanded" the hurricane to turn around and go back into the sea in the name of Jesus. it slammed into virginia beach (pat robertson's hometown) hours later. newsflash to pat: (1) you cannot command God to do anything and (2) God never promised you a trouble-free life.
