I probably have vote about 65% for Republicans, but unlike many sheep in this country, I don't ever vote for someone or some issue just because some politician suggests to do so.

What I really don't like though is the attitude of politicians getting so far away from our founding principles. Notice the Constitution has very defined powers and if not given specifically the government isn't supposed to get it. It isn't the other way around! I would instantly vote for a Communist if he came out and said "I will only support legislation that addresses true national interests". So in that interest a lot of the time I find it good to get rid of incumbents and keep gridlock. Pretty pathetic, but thanks to our politicians behavior and attitude towards their duties I find it a good policy.

Good points. There is a sizeable segment of voters in every democratic nation whose voting history reflects this attitude but they are incapable of rationalizing it this well.

I understand where you are getting at regarding your quote. Nevertheless, situations where there aren’t any good politician to vote for and some extreme party going into an election with a tremendous amount of outstanding promises is why absurd dictators like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez where brought into power.

It just seems that there is little difference between both of them although both parties try to exagerate their differences as much as possible.

Politics is such a dirty game.

Politics are all about "What's in it for me and the people that will re-elect me" and never about what is in the best interest of the country.

WildBill - where've you been? This is what the founding fathers planned - not just check and balance, but gridlock!
Why is our government so superior to all others - only one reason ever comes to my mind - they are so busy trying to do each other in, that there's no time left to interfere with us.
The only time they come together is when all of their self interests coincide, or in a national emergency.
Gridlock is the best friend a taxpayer ever had!

You don't have real left and right wing political parties in the US.

You choose between right wing, and really right wing.

(The UK is gravitating towards that system too at the moment. Mr T. Blair is really a Liberal.)
