Heh I was a bit drunk when I made the post, but even today I stand by it. Of course I'm generalizing, that's the whole point. Running a business here is such a nightmare, I've been involved in 4, and the biggest issue with every one was either unreliable/late employees, or ones that flat out steal from you. Hiring extra levels of managers to keep everyone in line is a fun added expense too.
If you could forward me a list of ticos that show up early, don't fake being sick, and won't steal from you at the very first chance, I'd hire em all today.

no, there are plenty of costa rican farmers, just take a trip to a small/medium farm , a big farm will of course be handled by a few who hire the cheapest available
about CEO's ..........well I am of course generalizing , that is the theme in the thread but the definition of 'hard work' is quiet varied.....and most of those don't fit in that description
Unfortunately I think you are late to the party (all those are already hired and their bosses work hard to keep them) and the other problem is , what demographics you use to hire? do you have a certain profile that you target ?
the other thing is, keep your expectations at zero (not low, simply zero) , you avoid being dissapointed that way

a) drugaddicts that speak English and need a good check to pay for their addictions
b) college students whose priority is (understanbly ) their studies since normally people want to do something else BUT get paid decently
c) we have our share of illegals.......read that as foreigners that work here illegaly on tourist visas but they generate jobs (of all kinds good jobs, bad jobs as lottery scams etc.......)
d) all sort of misc bums who know nothing else but speak English (Sort of......in many cases)

everyone i've known involve in that kind of business always had problems with the employees....on the store and the mall is easy even the security guys help to steal at the bar instead of work they drink and at the ph you will always find someone tying to sell the leads or the sensitive info....but its true is hard to find reliable ppl here im costarrican but i would say maybe 25% of ppl here really works hard for what they earn and the rest just thnk that they deserve what they get just by showing up
